I don't know about the CDI, but I've seen coils that stop working when they get hot. I think it would be extremely rare for it to happen to both coils at onces though.

I just fitted a 1GE CDI to my bike and has made a difference compared to the 47X I did have.

If you get a replacement I would get a 1GE

Just a few years ago I spent good money on a used 1ge CDI. It stopped working this spring. It definately wasn't worth what I paid for it. I just installed a Zeeltronics CDI. If I could go back, I'd have bought a new aftermarket CDI in the first place.

Did you fit the issue? What was it?

I recommend the Zeel as well I have an install procedure if you get one.

It sounds like your stator has a short.
You may be able to have it repaired or replaced cheaper than a 1ge box.
I don't have any experience with this company, but it would appear they could help you. http://www.westcountrywindings.co.uk/applications.htm
Good luck!
