Aftermarket Rear Tail & Brake Light Options

#1 Post by tonyhes » Mon Nov 06, 2017 11:47 pm

Hello Gentlemen,

So here we have my Buddy Pauls RZ500 tail unit on his RZ500. We need to adapt a brake light to this setup somehow so we can pass for street legal.

We have some idea for the signal, and licence plate lite however we are not quite sure what can be done for the brake light. As you can see there is not much room for a brake light and I'm not sure what could be adapted into the fairing iteself. Please reference the attached pictures of our mock up.

Any help would be appreciated. Obviously, we could pull some LED lights out of the air but... I'm hoping we can get a profession look. There are little scribed marks where I believe 2 tail lights would go... but...??

Thank you!
Tony

Something like this may solve both problems https://www.ebay.ca/itm/231418806373?ss ... 1436.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Mounted in the tail above the exhausts?

I used this one on my last project and have one for my next build. Led bulb, but plugs straight into the stock wire harness. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/LED-RUCKLICHT-HE ... Sw6HJZzPt-" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yikes! That's a lot of space to fill.

My recommendation for that shape and size:

'84-'85 USA RZ350 tail light.

Honestly, I think you should raise up that whole piece with the signals. Looks too low.

Gentlemen thanks for ideas.

We are thinking of something a little more sporty. :/

Here is what we were thinking. The green masking tape is basically what we were thinking...
We've tried round spots in similar placement, doesn't look good.

Have a look through here; https://www.customled.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They do complete OEM replacements in LED, make a good product, and you can set it up to include signals. No extra stalks needed unless you have to have them to pass inspection. I bought one for a CBR1000 to try in another project and ended up selling it to a buddy with a CBR1000 and he was very happy with it, very bright. I think probably one of the smallest OEM tail lights is the Honda Grom.

That would look cool for tailights, but pretty small for street use.

I thought you wanted a tail light to fill up that big space between the pipes and turn signals.

Why not get rid of that fender, and go for a tail tidy?

Do they wire in directly or do they need resistors?

Link?

Nice, in my opinion those will look better than the proposed round indicators. Looking forward to seeing them in place.

They light up directly with no resistor. They're an aftermark option for a honda dirt bike.
We ordered 2 more for possible 2 x 2 setup.

Going to be interesting cutting the FG. But first we have to make a battery tray and mount for the lights behind the FG.

The easiest way to cut the FG is with a rotary cutter/zip saw.
