Need a painter that knows how to paint these bikes.

#1 Post by PilotMarky » Wed Sep 02, 2015 10:14 am

So....

I had my bodywork repainted, and it's just not right. And to top it all off, it was really expensive. I'm almost at the point of a dispute, and I want my bike painting correctly (stock colours for an RZ500N) but to a higher standard. Show quality.

Anyone had their bikes painted and been happy with it? I am almost to the point where I might just ship it all to England and have Dream Machine do it.

I am in the Detroit area, but I don't care about shipping it out if I know it's going to be done right.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me!
Mark

Hi,

Dream Machine did my bike several years ago, and to be honest, if I'd known then what I know now I'd have sent it back.

I would guess it was about 15 years ago, and they charged around £800 excluding wheels. I still have the receipt so can check exact details.

Maybe I was unlucky, maybe they're better now?

Good luck with yours!

Cheers,
Paul.

You might check with Bill Wilson - I believe he just had his body work painted. Rick Lance also has a painter he uses for restoration work...

Good luck and let us know if you someone who does an accurate repaint and a decent cost.

He did my RD500 as well - excellent job - he's a perfectionist - he also does new aftermarket RD500 nose fairings in ABS or similar which are to a much better standard than original.

Cheers

I painted my bike being in the paint
Industrie for 5years I didn't like the
Different colours in the stickers so I
Fine lined the stickers did a stencil n
Slowly cut them out with a razor blade
So my bike has no stickers what so ever
Them clear coat over the top looks
MAGIC.

Some of the older members on here will remember George Gilbert in London, Ontario. He restored many RZ500's and was extremely particular. He used a shop in London;

Ultimate Touch Auto Body,
1794 Dundas St, London, Ontario N5W 3E5,
Phone: (519) 451-8560

The owners name is Branko, and I had the name Paul Dinino with their listing as well. I have never used them but if George was happy with them they must be good. Also less than 2 hrs from Detroit.

Man, do I ever miss George! He was a great guy and very talented. They don't come any better.
If I disagree with everyone, that doesn't make me right. If I take the side of only one, it doesn't end the fight. If my position's strong enough from exposure to the light, you may see things my way when we share the same highway.

Second that. I was fortunate enough to meet him when he serviced some equipment at my previous employer and he asked who owned the RZ in the parking lot, it was mine. We rode together a few times and I visited whenever I was in his neighbourhood. He put a huge effort into his son's karting effort in his last few years and worked to a very high standard in everything he did.
He showed me pictures of one of the gatherings of yours that he attended and spoke quite highly of you.

Apologies to OP for side track...

Appreciate its some miles from you OP but I in the last couple of years ive had a paint jobs done by Dream Machine, a.nother and Cordwells, Cordwells work is of far higher quality than any ive used, the paint is deeper and much more glossy, he also media blasts and repairs fuel tanks before painting.

None better IMHO
