My YZR Replica

#1 Post by Jetjockey » Wed Apr 16, 2014 2:06 pm

Howdy y'all.

Well here goes. I'm in the open. Lolol

This is the thread to my YZR500 Replica. Now....I know this has been done before but still.....there ain't many out there and I always wanted to build something that you can't buy so that's why I'm doing it.

Plus I have a total addiction with Yamaha and 2 strokes. I have a 81 350LC which I've had for best part of 20yrs......Love it....never sell it.
I do have a diesel too but it's a 2000 R1 so it's still a Yamaha...(My old Race Bike but now too old so just my Trackbike)

Anyway....The 500!

I'm about 4yrs in to this but apart from numerous house moves and 1 divorce.....Lololol.....I'm still at it and it will be finished......errrr.....eventually.

I'll post a few pics when I can work it out and have a bit more time. (I will change the size of the pics if they are too big or too small as I go......... So bear with me) :smt006

Hope you all like it and where I'm going with it.

Fitted a set of Brembo Mono Bloc's. Didn't want to take them out of the box to be honest but they're on the bike now. :smt007

After about 12 months trying to find one.....I finally found a 500 engine. It was a complete "Non Runner" and bits were all over the place but it was all there.
Started as this but after I took it apart I found the crank bearings were knackered so salvaged what I could and fit new bearings on one of the cranks after I'd had it checked and a complete reconditioned crank on the other cylinders.

After a Stage 3 Stan Stephens Tune (Porting, Head Skim, Powervalves etc) I rebuilt the whole engine from the ground up changing bits that needed it.

It ended up like this after I'd finished it.

Fitted the engine to the frame. It's a bloody tight fit for those that haven't done this before. I have a tank from a TZR 125 Belgarda. It fits the 3MA frame as it's pretty much the same frame on the 125. The tank is plastic so keeps the weight down and is slightly longer in length so I like the look better than the 3MA tank.

NK built the subframe and fitted one of his replica seat units.......but still not sure if I'm gonna use it as I might go for a slightly different look when I get onto the cosmetic side of it. Years away though at the minute.

Made "Slow" progress since the last time. The bike went away for "6 months" to have the exhausts handmade by "Barry Dawson" in York. (Blue Haze Engineering)
This man is a total wizard at making one off Two Stroke pipes.
Stainless Steel Pipes with Carbon Cans. His work (I hope you'll agree) is mega.
Picked the bike up and then got it home.

Got the bike home and now has:

Pipes made and fitted...

The eagle eyes will notice a New Nitron Shock. The Reservoir bracket, although been fabricated elsewhere, is not right and will be done again.
The shock needs a few changes to it to make it how I want it. I'm lucky in that my mate owns "K-Tech Suspension" so he'll do this for me.

As most......hahaha...... Of the major engineering work has been done I'm now onto sorting out the electrics etc.
I have fitted the coils and the regulation Short Lower Plugs & Race Caps..(£££££££££££...expensive).

I have a Ypvs Servo & "Zeeltronic" CDI & Servo Controller to fit (Thanks Borut)
Gonna mount those upfront I think.......Not sure yet.

So.........That's pretty much where I am as of today (April 2014).
It's been "Work in Progress" for about 3/4yrs on and off. Cash,Time,Life Issues all get in the way of trying to finish my bike but even when it's all done with paint etc........it'll never be done coz I'll always be tinkering.

Don't know the cost (Don't wanna).....
Don't know when's its gonna be done coz lack of £££££££££........but I want to at least have it running by the end of the year.
Might be pushed tho.........as my Divorce Lawyer told me!!!!
Lolololol

Hope you all like where it's going.
Would love to hear your views etc. and I'll be back ASAP when I've made a little more progress.

Spiderz.

Absolutely stunning, it amazes me what a lot of you guys do, the skill, patience, the money you are prepared to spend and the commitment it takes to build these bikes is something else. Well done, keep up the good work and keep the updates and photo's coming. Extremely happy with my result of updating mine and keeping it looking relatively standard but would still love to be able to build a replica like this.
Rich.
