My YZR Replica

Re: My YZR Replica
This brings back memories
do you have any pics where the frame has been altered around the kickstart specifically the inside
have you done chain alignment yet , have a few tips if not
Just a thought for your battery position, keep looking at placing mine on the rear engine mount, a small battery (3xv size) will fit perfectly and keep weight low
the worst is out the way, and it will never be finished, but that's part of the fun

Re: My YZR Replica
Thanks guys.
Rd84.......I'm a Leicestershire lad fella. Nice to see a fellow "Smoker" from "Home"!
Please don't be fooled into thinking this is a Quick Build though. It's taken 3/4yrs....3 houses & 1 Divorce to get here...Lololol
(Left with An 81 350LC, A 2000 R1...my Racebike and my 500!!!......left the rest)...lolololol "No Joke"!!!
Thanks Rich.
Dubsey!! lolololol.
Told you I'd get round to posting eventually eh? Lolol
You know the pain very well don't you bud!! Lolol
Was thinking of putting battery & fuses exactly where you did under the tank. Lots of room under there isn't there.
Not put a chain on her yet but as you know the R1 front sprocket fits straight on the 500 spline......and I have loads of R1 sprockets through racing to experiment with the gearing but that's miles away yet.
The Rear Sprocket Carrier has been machined to fit the swingarm and don't look too far off as the engine is slightly over to the left in the frame to help alignment.
Pm me anything bud......Anything coz you've done it already!
I'll still keep nagging you for advice though mate. Lolol
Radiator width????? Lololol
Literally no ££££££££ at the mo (Read....Divorce again..lolol) so it's all come to a bit of a halt so probably won't be posting many more pics for a while.
I'll keep you all posted though.
Thanks for all your encouraging comments.
My mates don't get what I'm doing......You guys do!!
500 2 strokes are the Bollox!
Nuff Said!

Re: My YZR Replica
Did the divorce thing a couple of times
and had to give the houses away
but it meant I could build something I desired
Believe me the pain of the bike is worth it every moment
The pain of a women is unfortunately our own choice lol
I know which one I choose to have in my life now
My build took 4 years and is not finished
Keep plugging away, your mates will never get it, mine don't !!

Dubsey........
I lost the house too!!!! Lololol
Like I say mate.........walked out with my bikes coz they meant more!!!!
Lololololol
I'll finish the 500 (But never finish it......but that's fine coz I love it really)
I really would love to have it at least running this year coz then it's "ALIVE" and it's then onto getting it to look nice and setting her up.
I agree with you on the choice of fairings though......
Yours looks as a 500 should do.
Need that lottery win!!

Re: My YZR Replica
Great to another 3MA build on its way. I may yet tackle my 3MA as some sort of 500 variant rather than a 250 rebuild. So it sits in the same forlorn state since 2002.

Re: My YZR Replica
A whole lot of lol's going on in this thread...
Excellent build by the way. Great work.
I'm beginning to regret selling my 3MA frame now! lol!

Re: My YZR Replica
Nice project.....Good luck with it!
I have always thought 3ma's were Yamaha's best looking production bike. Its a shame they never built a TZR500 of a similar design.
Maybe once your done you can send them a few pics and they can file it away in their 'what if bin'..
Cheers
Mick

Re: My YZR Replica
Hi Andy.
It's a 3XV Swingarm...as you say...
Modified on the chain adjusters to "Gp Adjusters". The arm was modified by Nigel Kimber to fit the 3MA frame.
The Wheel is a 2006 R6. The sprocket carrier has been machined so the wheel will:
1) Fit the swingarm...
2) To get the chain alignment in the right ballpark for the front sprocket.
It takes a 180 section tyre.
Hope this helps bud.

Re: My YZR Replica
Howdy.
Not that much progress but here's my latest:
I Now have:
Fully working Clutch...
Front and Rear Brakes all good...
Fully working throttle...
Chain fitted. Alignment is pretty good but runs a little close to the frame so I'll get a couple of mm machined off when it gets close to finishing.
Made all the throttle cables up myself using parts from "Venhill". Those that have done it will know what I mean.
Amal splitters on the Twin Pull throttle. Might change these though.
More when I can.

Re: My YZR Replica
Cables all made.
I have a radiator that will obviously need modifying to fit but I'm at the stage where I need to get a fairing and fit that first and see how much room there is to fit a radiator before I start chopping it up.
All in good time.....and cash permitting.

Re: My YZR Replica
Very, very nice.
Are these custom JL pipes?
Are these custom JL pipes?
Re: My YZR Replica
No.
The pipes are one off hand made by a guy called "Barry Dawson" of Blue Haze Engineering in York in the Uk.
He's an absolute wizard in making Two Stroke pipes.
Stan Stephens recommended him so if he's good enough for Stan.......
They're Stainless Steel with Carbon Cans.....as you can see. Lolol
Cash is the problem at the minute.
Slow progress.
