Interesting. Would love to see pics of your frame chop.

The frame does not need to be chopped to use the R6 arm, just minor modifications, like moving the YPVS motor, and maybe removing a small bracket.

I would be chopping to fit straight pipes. Even if straight pipes would fit without chopping, I may want to get rid of the curved support tubes. They look kind of weird without the pipes on the outside. We'll see.
The Aprilia Mille swingarm I'm using is very wide up front. My pics are all on Photobucket. :( I'll have to take more.

I misunderstood why you are chopping the frame at first.

No problem. I appreciate any input that might help.

If your photobucket pics are posted somewhere, I might be able to "fix" them:

Got the dimensions for the OEM swingarm washers. :smt006

I believe they're hardened steel, but hopefully, titanium will work - at least for a while.

Trying to machine up a pair, now.

Ordered the crazy expensive dust caps from Singapore. Just want to keep moving forward.

I know that sometimes OEM parts deviate in size, but I got a measurement of about 39.1mm for the OD of the pivot tube on the OEM swingarm.

In this drawing, I see 39mm, but I also see 40mm - and I'm not sure what the 40mm measurement is for? Sorry, if it's an obvious answer.

It's really difficult to say from this print. My guess would be 40mm tube with a 39mm chamfer or 40mm tube with the ends turned down to 39mm.

Finally figured out WTF is going on with the R6 hugger.

Both carbon huggers I ordered were too small. Too small is a relative term, so, the center-to-center distance between the left and right mounting holes on the huggers is 150mm and the swingarm measures 165mm. The distance from the front hole to the side holes is also too small on the huggers.

Figured the huggers are no good, or the swingarm is bowed/bent. Ordered a new OEM R6 hugger. Unbelievable! OEM is exactly the same size as the carbon huggers. Never seen an OEM part so far off on size. And the same swingarm and hugger part number were used for about 10 years.

Couldn't believe it, so had a friend measure a different R6 swingarm. Exactly 165mm. Nothing wrong with my arm.

Problem is, when the carbon part is stretched to fit, all the pressure is on this tiny 2mm piece. Guess it must work, lots of people are using carbon huggers.

First cardboard mockup of my footpeg bracket design. Still have several things to fix and try out. Won't need heel guards if I keep them full size.

If it looks a little off, it is. Need to check that better next time.

Image

Clearance to the swingarm is a little over 1/4 inch, as is.

Still trying different footpeg bracket mockups.

Will try to finish this little bugger later today.

Received the 2 pivot tube end caps.

Paid more than double the price because they're backordered until June.

Never tried to design a swingarm, so I'm learning a lot.

Looks like reducing the length of the (R6 style) arm will cause the upper brace to hit the frame. Lowering the upper brace puts it closer to the chain. Also, moving the sprocket forward puts the chain closer to the upper brace. Need to do some careful measuring before making changes.

Pulled out & split the casings to install the bearing, output shaft & front sprocket. Now, I can measure from the chain run.

Was thinking about gullwing in this style, but not right for this bike. There's no shock in the swingarm, so, all 4 tubes can be centered and welded to the pivot tube. Much better for clearance issues. Could still gullwing the lower tube.

Still waiting on OEM pivot tube parts. Sent the jacked up parts back and ordered new ones.
