Yeah. Not sure yet how ominous.
Meanwhile, would sure like to do something different and be able to ride on this roller.
Well, this chassis is cool. Modern, or not. And not many like it. Not changing chassis. I can just buy a fast bike, but I'd rather build something fun & interesting. Not sure it's possible, but it's fun trying.

I like to think it's about being satisfied with the end result. You're building it to your own liking and being able to do so using the stock chassis is certainly going to be more satisfying.
I'll soon be starting on my naked bike build and will keep the stock frame and running gear. That is being done just to prove to myself that it is possible to build a good looking naked bike without changing the entire essence of the bike. I'll use as many stock parts as possible and try to keep it looking like it was something Yamaha could have built. I also want the option of being able to quickly go back to full stock for resale value. As you know, it is challenging to build a good looking naked RZ500, even with many modifications. Doing it without those modifications is where the fun lies. I'm a big fan of those "why didn't I think of that" moments. Those simple changes that make a huge difference, yet are so simple they are often overlooked.
I'm hoping there is nothing serious with your health. Life has more than enough challenges. We don't need more.

I have pretty bad cancer. Treatment options are horrible, as you can imagine. Not sure about anything at this point.
Very sorry for the bad news. You guys have been so kind and helpful to me throughout the years.
I'll be building bikes as long as I can.

Re: Streetfighter RZV Roller
Test fitting parts. Trying to get it on 2 wheels with the parts I have.
Titanium parts are fitting well.
Need to measure for custom triples. Should have the forks on tomorrow.
Always have problems to solve. Looks like the sprocket side spacer is too short. Can't tell if it could be the brake side spacer, or the caliper mount. Rotor looks centered in the caliper as is, though.
The caliper mount is also poorly designed. In order to move the axle all the way forward in the swinger, i would need to machine about 3/16" off the mount. Off the part that holds the caliper to the swinger. Just leaving that for now. The rear tire is about 1/8" from touching the swinger.

Re: Streetfighter RZV Roller
I might have already mentioned them or you may already know, but Cognito Moto will do any triple you want.

Didn't know about that shop.
Always trying to use friends, not to save money- but the parts and bike mean a lot more that way.
I do have a couple of friends that might help me out with this.
The big hold up is usually because I'm not sure what to do.
The lower triple is definitely easier. Just have to figure steering stops, fender clearance, and maybe guide for a brake line.
A lot more to consider for the top, especially what dash to use.
If you don't remember, I'd like something similar to this. Should look good in polished aluminum with gold TiN coated bolts.
Re: Streetfighter RZV Roller
The spacer is pressed into the bearing, so I'm going to make a titanium cap to fit over the spacer.
Hope it centers the wheel.

Re: Streetfighter RZV Roller
Are you sure that the wheel manufacturer is counting on swingarm flex to take up the end play when the axle is torqued? Wheel changes will be a bitch, if there is no clearance to wiggle the wheel in!
Re: Streetfighter RZV Roller
I was wondering the same thing. But, from experience- I don't ever recall a gap like this on any other bike. Usually the wheel (and spacers) fit snugly before tightening the axle nut.gpaddict wrote:Are you sure that the wheel manufacturer is counting on swingarm flex to take up the end play when the axle is torqued? Re: Streetfighter RZV Roller
Hey Smoker, didn't you buy an NSR400 done up in "west" colors several years ago? Do you still have it, if I remember right, that was a sexy bike also!
