Re: TZR 2ME Nearing Completion
What is it on the stock production RG500 (flange mount flat slide 28 mm) carbs that you interpret as a fake powerjet?
If I disagree with everyone, that doesn't make me right. If I take the side of only one, it doesn't end the fight. If my position's strong enough from exposure to the light, you may see things my way when we share the same highway.
Re: TZR 2ME Nearing Completion
Those on my rg 500 are non powerjets .....yes ,upper one seem to be powerjet but it s not ,also the bowl looks like a powerjet but there s no connection between the bellmouth and the bowl ,lowers have nothing
maybe i ve mixed pairs?

Hmmm, I think you are overworked John. You should pass this project on to me
Seriously, really nice work. Love it. The gas tanks are class.

Re: TZR 2ME Nearing Completion
Thanks Paul.
I'm getting sick of seeing this particular bike, so it may not be in my collection long. Another nut and bolt restoration and the "been there-done that" feeling is approaching.
I have more TZR and RZ500 tanks. Typical hoarder. Might be time to lighten the load soon. Running out of storage space. The project I started today may help there.
How did you make out with the black plastic restoration? Were you able to find a suitable product?

I actually bought a few different products and I didn't get to try them out yet, I'm trying to finish up a few other bits for friends, TL1000R, replace the tranny, second gear blown, Replace the motor in a 2008 GSXR750 track day bike, Broken rod, Transferring all the race goodies over to that motor, Never ends...

Still plugging away at this while dealing with the garage construction. Down to the small but important things now.

Re: TZR 2ME Nearing Completion
Taking care of the details now and making sure everything is ready for the first start. Pipes on, baffles in, oil lines installed, tank filled and and pump bled, verified oil pump rigging, air filter installed, verified carb sync and closed airbox. New petcock installed and new signals installed. The most difficult thing was installing the baffles. The new gaskets are really quite thick. The old one were paper thin after 30 years of use. I had to use a cargo strap to squeeze the baffle in far enough to install the securing bolt. A colossal pain in the ass.
Every part on this bike is genuine Yamaha. There have been no aftermarket parts used and this has been a 100% strip and restore job. Down to the absolute smallest components. Even the 2T oil pump was completely stripped and overhauled.

Looks very nice, you should start it for the first time in the new garage to christen it, give it that patina of two stroke.

I'm too old and fragile to push the bike up to the garageRuZty wrote:Looks very nice, you should start it for the first time in the new garage to christen it, give it that patina of two stroke.
