I paid less than 1/2 that price, but it's been a few years.

Mine was 1/3 that price with Ontario ownership but that was at least 5 years ago. Mukeidou wants a lot for sure but I think these are getting rare now since there are not many RZV's left to be parted out. They will only go up in the future. They are a gorgeous hand welded piece of kit and elevate the RZ/RD500 chassis to the level of the RG500 and NS400. If you want one, you better get one soon before you can't!

If you can buy an original RZV500 complete is the way to go. The RZV has so many options over the rest of the RZ and RD

Depends what your into though. Personally, I'd rather have a Mico YZR frame than a RZV.

RZV parts here in Japan are becoming harder to find and the prices are reflecting this. Actually, most 2 stroke bikes have sharply risen in value even in Japan. Used 2 stroke parts used to be relatively affordable 2 or 3 years ago.

I have a never registered/ridden RZV500R which I plan to sell some time next year. It's not in "just out of the crate" condition but it's very nice. It actually was in a dealer's shop window for about 26 years before the dealer decided to sell it. If anyone is seriously interested, please send me a PM for details.

Because sellers like Miyabee have bought and parted out every RZV500 and RG500 they could get their hands on. Those same sellers have moved on to more obscure machinery now that they have decimated the RZV500 and RG500 supply. When people are paying $300 for RZ500 solo seat pads you know things are bad.

Wow - $2500 + shipping for an RZV500 frame.

I have 2 here. Maybe instead of using 1, I should sell both.

Frank, I know I am late to the thread, but as we discussed any project using the 500 motor can be fun and exciting.

RVZ frame semi-stock bike, YZR replica using 3AK, 3LC or 3TC TZ250 or 3MA TZR frame.

I was even thinking of putting a 500 motor into the extra 2KM TZ250 roller that is in the mail from Japan.

Any of these lightweight options should give a 500 that is a fun bike.

The nice thing about the 3MA route is that TZ250 forks bolt right up to the TZR frame no mods needed. And late model TZ250 forks are very capable units. And the 3XV SP swingarm looks the part.

What is the difference between a 3MA frame and 2MA frame?

2MA is last iteration (export model?) of the 1st gen 1KT TZR250 patterned after the 1RK TZ250 (although the TZ was more of a parallel development - the race chassis and street chassis arrived at the same time) - the 3MA is the short lived reverse cylinder TZR250 patterned after the 3AK TZ250.

Wow what a wonderful thread this has turned into. Thank you everyone for contributing!! There is quite a range of opinions from buy a stock RZV to cut and weld to achieve what ever you desire.

I really like the RZV chassis with suspension, wheels and brakes idea and I also like the 3MA frame headed toward GP bliss as well. I think one of those is the direction I will take. I took delivery of my current RZ in July '84 in the crate. I need to dig up some old photos to share the glorious day in the beautiful Wisconsin sunshine oh so long ago. I have made some changes over the years but I do have everything I need to make it stock once again. Loved that bike from the minute I saw the the first RD500LC photo. I still have the first magazine photo I saw of the RD500LC back in the day. It was attached to the "fridge" with a magnet for a good long while and now fading quietly in my wallet.

I have been keeping my eyes open for a RZ500 project and I have the start up in MN. Boy will that be a drive from Georgia. Headed up the end of the month. Do I need to bring snow shoes or anything like that? lol

Thanks everyone, Frank --- keep it coming.

Another option to consider with the rzv frame is an Aprilia RS250 swing arm. Somebody was selling them already modified for the 500's. With gp style pipes they give the bike a more modern look. I'm sure they are more rigid than the stock swing arm as well.

I have seen the Aprilia RS250, and the R6 swing arm for suggested use. I suppose you could also re-enforce the stock arm? Is there an advantage to increasing the wheelbase with the stock RZ or RZV frame, or is the advantage to other swing arms the rigidity and a stock length arm would be a better set up?

Thanks, Frank
