Not a modern frame or even an aluminum frame,
but the TDR500 is the one that makes me drool!

contrary to what John believes that Naomi ( Miyabee) has corner the two stroke market in Japan. You can see a good deal or two here on the RG400. It will be nice to see what the auctions ends at.

Once again you seem infatuated with me George. Next you'll be sending me flowers and chocolate.

I have seen the Aprilia RS250, and the R6 swing arm for suggested use. I suppose you could also re-enforce the stock arm? Is there an advantage to increasing the wheelbase with the stock RZ or RZV frame, or is the advantage to other swing arms the rigidity and a stock length arm would be a better set up?

Thanks, Frank

I think rigidity is the biggest advantage. The Aprilia RS250 and some years of R6 also give you the added clearance for the exhaust system. Plus you can easily use the wheels and brakes that go with the swingarm. I'm not sure what the ideal swingarm length is. I think they also build in a little extra ride height to adjust the rake a bit.

Remember, the longer the swing arm (assuming the same linkage attachment points) the more leverage on the shock so besides a slight improvement in stability and slightly slower turn response from the longer wheelbase, be ready to possibly need to increase your spring rate to maintain the same suspension performance.

I am still running the RZV frame and has been fine for all track use. Just installed a new 180/60 profile rear tire from the 180/55 that has been on the bike since the start. I will get the before and after dimensions and weights. This profile should double the rear contact patch, increase the rake, and add more weight to the front. We will see how it all lays out after moving the tire back for adequate clearance. I am hoping feel is close to the same with new more triangular rear tire and the slightly longer wheelbase. COTA week after F1 and weather is so far suppose to be beautiful.

The extra rake will probably offset the extra wheel base the tall tire is forcing you to add. Did you have to add chain inks to clear the swing arm after all?

Well I picked up my donor on Saturday from Minneapolis. The project begins. The bike is pretty rough, but about what I expected, and mostly complete. I can't share any photos yet as I haven't found a service to replace my years of photobucket hosting.

My pretty Wisconsin girlfriend Teresa and I made a day of it driving up to get the bike. It is now safely in cold storage in her garage. Plan is to move it and the rest of her life south to Georgia near Thanksgiving, including her Ninja 250.

Step one complete.

Drove right past my doorstep, and didn't say hi. And I'm a little upset that I hadn't heard of a project bike in my area.

Well golly, I would have stopped by had I known, after picking up the bike of course. Jeff B, a few posts up is from Wisconsin too. I bought my first RZ new in 1994 when I lived in Blooming Grove, sort of a Madison suburb. The bike is in Dane now, over on the Lodi / Waunakee side of town.

If you didn't already know, riding in Georgia is a good bit better than Wisconsin.

I drove through Georgia once. The only part I remember is the traffic jams in Atlanta.

That would be true near Atlanta quite often.
Curvy roads in the North and Northwest are plentiful though.

They start right where the pavement connects to the dead end gravel road I live on.

What part of Minnesota did you pick the bike up from?
