3D printing

#1 Post by wolfgangh » Thu Oct 04, 2018 5:31 pm

Friends, I just fell in love with 3D printing. I bought the cheapest reasonable 3D printer out of curiosity, and a CAD software running on my iPad ( with pencil). I started to design small parts for testing, and I am impressed with the capabilities. The more I think about it, the more ideas of parts I can produce I am getting.

It can be either final parts if great strength is not needed, or just prototypes for test fitting before they are made out of metal.
My latest object is a velocity stack for my BIMOTA. I know this does not work on a twostroke carb, I am not gonna use it, but it was a nice test.

Wolfgangh, if it isn't what you are already using on your iPad, try OnShape CAD. All the computing is done on their end and you can edit on your phone or desktop. It's developed by the founder of Solidworks.

I have had very good results recently with 3D printing to prototype, fit and then produce parts for my Superbike build.
Having now done this process a couple of times I cannot imagine not doing a custom build this way now. I just send the 3D drawings off to a CNC service to produce after I have done my testing and concept proofing.

That NS400R is s beauty!

Love white bikes. And those wheels.

Sure hope I get to spend some time with my NS400R. It needs some TLC.
