Did you paint the swingarm or just natural alloy?

Thanks

Ade
Hi Ade,

It’s a natural brushed alloy finish - I had it bead blasted then lots of hours spent with scotchbrite.

Cheers
Paul
Hi, I am also interested in this swingarm. Did you put a clear over it when you were done?

Thanks

Hi,

I haven’t clear coated it yet - but that is the plan - I’ll also do the frame as well so that it matches the swingarm.

Make sure the metal is warm but not hot before you spray the swingarm - the room you spray in should also be warm and with low humidity.

Cheers
Paul

A bit more progress...

The bikes now gone away to a bike shop for quite a few bits to be done that I'm not capable of doing.

The fairing and seat are available from King Carbon if anyone is thinking of doing a similar project.

Cheers
Paul

Terrific build. Love that bodywork.

Is King Carbon UK based?

Here are some shots of the subframe from earlier in the project... forward main subframe is by Gav at GIA, Nottingham, the aft part , oil tank and battery tray are by Nigel at NK Racing...

Nigel also did the rear sets, JL pipe re-route, Brembo rear brake, swingarm, yokes and front Brembo brakes. Discs are 320mm

Hi Paul, I ordered the front fairing in woven FRP and a windshield today. I have a standard type YZR500 seat which is my preference and will do my upper pipes like a YZR with short silencers. Lee said the front faring is also modified with additional venting and widened. Can you give the details? Thanx for putting this out there. It makes it a lot easier since you did the grunt work. This is a finite opportunity so I jumped on it! $850 CAD to Canada, about 1/2 the price a 1990 version Airtech would cost me, Dan

Hi Dan,

I widened the belly pan 2 inches (50mm) and put in narrower radiator ducts to allow a standard radiator and airbox- I changed the trailing edge contour to allow for JL GP pipes or similar - I’ve put ducts and blisters on to allow for RZ500 water pump, clutch and generator - I put a duct in to cool a dry clutch if required and I put a duct in the bottom of the belly pan to give a cool air flow to the rear shock. The angle of the rear edge of fairing side is changed so that it is parallel to the frame to make it look like it belongs on our bikes - also the top fairing is profiled for the Gustafson 1991 YZR screen but others might fit - there are two holes each side in the mid section the rear one attached to the OEM airbox if required - with the rear fairing edge parallel to the frame you can then figure out the front brackets and front subframe position - you will have to figure out a new oil tank and radiator overflow tank.

I hope this helps and that you’re as happy with the final fairing from King Carbon as I am. The fairing is quite thin for lightness so you might need the odd extra bracket or brace to maintain the shape- I’ll report back on this as my project continues.

Cheers
Paul

Thanks - it’s hard work at the minute - hundreds of small details that you never think of until the end of a project - I’m hoping it will be running by the end of this year.

Cheers
Paul
