Mosport 1977? King Kenny Rules

#1 Post by ns86 » Thu Nov 03, 2011 8:33 pm

Mosport, Ontario, Canada. Not sure of the exact year. Maybe 1977, AMA 750 class I believe. Kenny Roberts #2, Yvon Duhamel #17, Johnny Cecotto #4, Skip Aksland #27 . I have been searching AMA Rider files but not sure of #36? Nice practice rainsuit Kenny! A great weekend when I was a teenager.

you have to use a file hosting service, like photobucket ns86

load the pics from your machine to the service then choose the

link

and copy/paste that into your post

Hi Greg,
I will give that a try a bit later. I'd like to get the pics up. Thanx for the info.

Not sure on the quality but I have heard forum members use this company's parts and are happy. Also have rods and webs.

Crank seals http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-RD500-RZ ... 1028wt_977

Crank, front http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-RZ500-RD ... _500wt_992

Crank, rear http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-RZ500-RD ... _500wt_992

I will be buying these when I convert to my rzv frame and do a rebuild at the same time.
When I looked at the bike the tank was empty. I put a boost pack on the battery terminals to check for ypvs functioning and electrics. Put fuel in and choke full. It started after a few kicks. It seemed a little off on upper left cylinder? Wouldn't go in gear without stopping dead. Clutch was locked up. I did notice a leak at the fuel petcock. If you can't get it started there's a chance it leaked the fuel in the tank and flooded the carbs and maybe the crankcase is flooded as well? How much fuel is in the tank? I put at least a gallon in so that may tell you something by what's left. Not sure , but you should be able to get it started. It fired for me around the 3rd kick from being dry. I had it running a few times and ran it for at least 10 minutes overall. It should run. Hope that helps, Dan

crank bearings?

Hey greg,
I have no idea on where to find crank bearings? Not sure what you are saying as far as starting the bike. Is it not starting? The only thing I noticed is the tank was bone dry and maybe the fuel is draining through the leaky petcock flooding the float bowls or there is a stuck float? Seems odd the tank was dry and he had it running earlier this year? A stuck float on my polaris 350 2t atv drained the whole tank real fast. Leaky petcock on my ns400 leaked much slower. Not sure if these petcocks would flood your carbs without vacuum but I don't think they would unless the petcock is real bad? Let me know what's up, Dan.

Should we move this thread to another topic?

oh yes it's starting Dan, no problems there... curious on cranks and rebuilds and you've been a great help with those links... how often have you seen vpRacing sell these cranks? they have unlimited stock? I seen the quantities on their auction.... :(

I actually just emailed them to see what bearings they use as the more I think, the more I know even if my kawi crank builder knows, or knows someone that knows how to rebuild one.... compared to the cost of my triple crank rebuild (~ $700cdn: rods/bearings/seals)... the cost of these 2 new rz cranks is very tempting...

... maybe rztom can move this offtopic discussion from your thread... I don't know how to do it...

Hi Greg, All I know is they are the only new cranks I have seen and I haven't heard anything bad about them. Still can't upload pics. Have them on photobucket now but can't seem to load them on the forum> I haven't done this before so I need it spelled out exactly. I noticed img link on photobucket, but do you click on img on the forum then paste into the text or header bar and them paste to post? Not sure cause nothing"s working yet. I need step by step instructions HELP!!!!

use TPI bearings they just said... and in 3 years, no failures! I should bite the bullet and just buy a pair!!!

who knows, mine may be OK (doubtful).. but won't know for sure untill I have the cranks out, visually check seals and bearings then checked for straightness

so in your photobucket find the pic you want and copy the 4th link down, the IMG Code.

looks like

then in your posts here in the forum, just paste it into the reply box asis, don't click any extra buttons for any other forum action... just paste it and you're done

Yes indeed. After that, no more Canadian GP similar so a very fond memory for me. I've had the bug for 40 years now! Yvon Duhamel had the skill but not the power on the KR750 to keep up with Kenny on the TZ750. The only time I ever saw the 750 2 strokes in action and it was awesome!

In 1978 Formula 750 Rookie World Champion Steve Baker had his career ending crash a Mosport. I am trying to find out if these photo's might have been that year? His crash was in practise and he did not race in this event so it may be 1978, my memory fails me. Anyone remember?

Quite sure that was 1978........36 is likely John Long from Long Beach Fla. Mike Baldwin beat Kenny by a whopping 40 sec.after stealing a second warm up lap while everyone idled on the grid.
