Re: New RD500 Owner - UK
Update for you on my bike, after a meeting with Daryll from IDP Moto regards my 350, my 500 ended up at IDPs for a check over, to cure a few leaks and to sought the rear brake set up (parts mainly sourced from Ade, cheers mate!)
I got it back in the week and have been out on it most of this morning.
I cant fault it, with the recent work, it goes, stops and handles remarkably well, the ride is really very good, very surprised, the forks have been overhauled and the rear shock is an aftermarket item of some description which must help, comfy too.
Hasnt got the pronounced step in power of the 350, its as happy at 4,000RPM as 9,000RPM, its a noisy and quite vibratory thing from the saddle which is all part of it.

The rear brake set up is now as it should be.

friend of mine made up a bracket to hold the stone guard in place, will do until the genuine item pops up..looks OK and does the job.

Feel free to take the piss but I couldnt resit this 80's paddock jacket that popped up on eBay last week , just for runs to the local meet.

Re: New RD500 Owner - UK
Looks like a nice buy. Best wishes with it. Enjoy.
Re: New RD500 Owner - UK
Hopefully a kind of conclusion to this thread, after 2 and a bit years of ownership, much pissing around down blind alley ways and eventually an engine rebuild, (goosed crank seals & stuck rings), final tweaking to the carbs on the 500 today, ended up with 80BHP at the tyre (from 71) ,safer jetting & a much smoother curve. Great result for a stock bike I think.
Before and after.

Hopefully , this Summer I can enjoy it as intended.

Re: New RD500 Owner - UK
Just to add to this, i shoudl give credit to Alan from StokesyRd Motorcycles who rebuilt the engine last September, Alan has been helping me on and off more or less since I got my bike 2 years ago, alongside the rebuild, he painted, polished and related items as he went along, photo evidence is given on a DVD(shown), the before and afters of the exhausts show just what a nice job he does,..as well as this, if you give him a bell, he always picks up the phone and is happy to help with general advice, his pricing is also very fair.
