I appreciate free, but I'm sure members here wouldn't mind paying a user fee to this forum. It might also have the benefit of keeping the trolls out.

maybe the way of hosting pictures if Tom could find a web server such as photo bucket. whoever wants to post pictures can ftp the pictures at an extra cost. you will need an account for that. then we star getting how much space on the server every user has. Now we need a network administrator. :smt017 :smt010

Not a fan of that, John, but I'll take it under consideration. Yes, it really REALLY sucks that Photobucket decided to screw everybody's pooch, especially considering the impact of a user's several years worth of pics, posted across God-knows how many different forums one may be a member of, that suddenly go missing.... :smt011

From day one, for adding pictures to your posts, I advised signing up for and using a 3rd party picture hosting service, of which there are plenty to choose from (some found in my "sticky" tutorial here - which I have just edited to remove Photobucket from the list)

To Jeff's point, I have never really advocated using the picture attachment tool, which is a built-in forum membership feature for adding pics to your posts. Simply because we don't have the time nor resources (storage/bandwidth) to manage what could amount to thousands of images.

Let's just stick with the using the photo hosting services, and hope more of these don't follow Photobucket's path to corporate greed and ultimate destruction.

Here's one for Photophucket, from my DropBox account;

Unfortunately you have to pay $12.99CAD per month or $129CAD per year (probably half that in USD) for a plus account, but that gives you 1TB storage and all sorts of other options for version history etc. for any type of files.

I've gotten 10 emails from Photobucket, but they haven't blocked me yet. Any day now, I expect.

I have transferred my pics over to flickr from PB and while it seems I can add photos to posts I can't seem to add an avatar pic after resizing, says invalid URL. Anyone using Flickr have this problem?

Got the dreaded email last week. I only had about 2 dozen photo's tops and today my links are toast. Good riddance to PhuckedBucket and I hope they die a slow self inflicted suicide.

I've had over a dozen emails so far and they still haven't killed my links. I keep waiting. It's like death by a thousand cuts. Just do it and get it over with.
