As far as registering the bike in California. You need a minimum of 7800 miles. The DMV in California put me through the ringer with there idiotic rules.

That is just a matter of getting the odometer to read what they want to see. That is an problem to solve.

I didn't know what the odometer should be. I asked them what happens if I take the bike back out of state and bring it back with the correct reading. I had to say what I thought they wanted to hear. No you'll never be able to register the bike in California. Yeah right. They are so screwed up. A year later with different paper work from the local PD and the correct number I got it register.

The MC21 for $4000.00 is a good buy, but also a good example of the expense required to get it to the level of the one for $11k.
The cheaper bike, gas no title, and registering it in California is likley impossible.
It needs a complete overhaul probably motor and cosmetics.
Requires many new or repaired mechanical/pipes etc.. All said and done a easy 6k needs to be spent on such a bike, so in the end your right back at bumping 11K.
Would make a great bike for a collection, track bike or a non California owner...no doubt.

For me the clear lights, powder coated wheels and wave rotors are an instant turnoff.

For 12 grand at least have orange and red lights and gold wheels :)

Oh, and that Pentax SP currently @ $4000 is one of the more limited NSR's. Only 1500 made it out the factory in that scheme.

I was so tempted to buy that $4k MC21. I have a lead on some FIII/RK parts so was thinkign of usong it s a base to build an HRC FIII NSR250R/RK kit bike.

The seller seems to have an endless supply of grey market bikes he imports right into port of Long Beach here...Everytime I search on Craigslist he has TZRs,RGVs and NSRs for sale, all priced well below what were accustomed to, however he often sells them as is, no paperwork, no title. So one has to get creative...wish I knew a sure fire way to obtain a California title...I'd be able to almost double my money on these little gems.
Everyone talks the talk and talks big...until you press them on the details...then there quiet all of a sudden...lol I was looking into attempting to street register a KX500 or CR500, and contacted a guy who says he does it all the time, then he conveinently had no comments, I don't think anyone knows exactly what to do.
It does depend on VIN# count and I'm thinking pure luck, my friend had his Gamma500 registered in 48 hrs...& I have U.S. spec Yamaha Tri Z 250 that's taking just forever to obtain a title..as Calif might mandate matching #s on dirtbikes go figure? Honestly I've been into DMV 3 times and received totally contradictory information.
Calif is Whacky. No Doubt

Dave

I won't tell you how to do it, but I will give you pieces of the puzzle. Do not go to the DMV till the very last. Download the forms from the DMV site and read them very carefully. It helps if the frame has a DOT tag.
