Okay, that sucks.

I have a suspicion the little German ride will make you happier. :smt023

It should be cheaper to maintain and be much quieter.

Hi John

You done your home work. The 76 Carrera took the flares from the 73RS. Porsche always does something in limited numbers as a test bench. The beauty of the 76 Carrera over the 76 regular 911. The engine and tranny cases are aluminum. The 76 911 cases were magnesium. The magnesium cases were like like accordions because of the thermal reactors (fancy word for catalytic converters) . Also 76 Carrera had the CIS (continuous injection system) injection. My understanding they only made 80 Targas of the 76 Carrera. If your considering your friends car. Check to see if the tensioners are hydraulic fed from the engine. I owned my 911 since 73 and living in northern California is a joy to take it out. If you get the car you will enjoy it.

My friend's brother has a 1972 911. A bit of a custom build with the best of this and the lighest of that. He bought the car when he lived in Germany. In 1992 that car caught fire in western Canada. The fire department showed up and attacked the fire with water. The result was predictable for anyone that knows the properties of magnesium. The engine went up like a roman candle. Apparently it was quite spectacular.

Hi John

You have given me enough clues to the model of the car. The 1972 911 line up consisted of the T,E and the S. The E and S had the beautiful sounding M.F.I (Mechanical Fuel Injection). The long stacks for the intakes sounded great. The T and only for Europe had the miserable Zenith carburetors. The good thing for the 911 in 72. They increased the stroke on the crank for the 2.4 engine from 66mm to 70mm and the shift pattern went to the H pattern from the 915 box. What happen to the car was it totally destroyed if it wasn't. I bet is running around with a 3 liter engine from a SC

hmm what you are looking at might be the ultimate 911 experience!
I had a 69 T coupe with webers when those came out, and I'm sure everyone with a Porsche wanted it.
the turbo made the engineers want to build the 928 instead.

The 69T had the webers but also it was a 2 liter. The same engine was used on the 914/6. They made less than 1500 of the 914/6 very desirable now, but at that time it wasn't since you could get the 911T for five hundred dollars more

yup, just a little screamer, not an E or S which were faster each successive year but the old T was within my stretched budget then, although still pretty pricey for a 7 year old car

btw, giron, bigger later engines aside - to me yours is the 'right" one, as it has the smaller bumpers!

I have to confess. The thought of magnesium cases it scared me. I sold off my 2.2 engine and bought a 2 liter early case. The early 2 liter cases were aluminum. I punched the case out to take the 2.7 liter RS piston and barrels with webers. As far as the transmission I upgraded to a 915 box with aluminum case and a RS transmission pump. Now since I was looking under the car. I couldn't leave the cast iron trailing arms so I swapped for aluminum trailing arms from a 74 911. I associate my 911 with two strokes. You can revved the 911 engines like a two stroke
