Dyna Tek Coils

#1 Post by V4 Heaven » Tue Sep 17, 2019 5:59 am

Hi all,

For the past few years, I've had DynaTek coils fitted to my bike.

The code for them is DC11-01 and the specs are at this link: http://www.dynatekuk.com/sport_bikes_ig ... coils.html

At 0.5 ohms, the primary resistance is just below the spec shown in the workshop manual, ie 0.67 ohms =/- 20%.

So my questions are as follows:

1. Will the slightly lower resistance fry the CDI or any other electrics on my bike?
2. Has anyone else used these coils?

Thanks all.

I use these coils on both my bikes and haven't had any problems with them,

Cheers @tacky1. Can I ask what HT leads you are using with them? Also, are your plug caps the 'resistor' type?

Also using these on my RD. See link viewtopic.php?f=5&t=14706 where Rick Lance answers my question and recommends these Dynatek 0.5 ohms. Using resistor type plugcaps. Works well in my setup, but required me to fabricate new brackets. Managed to keep them in the same place pretty much, but they are a tad bigger (and heavier) than originals.

What mine don’t have is resistor plug caps. I think that’s why I’ve been having issues. I’ll get some resistor caps and try again.

Cheers.

Couldn't you keep the non-resistor caps, and use resistor spark plugs?

Hi, I ran it with resistor plugs and non resistor plug caps and that's what caused poor running.

In the end, I threw on an old standard coil and the problem went away. The Dynatek coils are only a few years old and have hardly done any mileage so I'd like to keep them if I can.

A mate of mine took his 500LC which also had the same Dynatek coils fitted to be dyno'd. The dyno tester sensed that the non resistor caps were holding the bike back. They put NGK resistor plug caps on and it gained 4bhp straight away.

Is that with resistor plugs?

Yeah, the dyno event was resistor type plugs but non resistor plug caps.

Sorry, yep, I’m running NGK resistor plug caps with 8mm plug wire.

That's very interesting! I had heard that you shouldn't have resistors in both the plug and cap. Now I wonder where I heard that.

I looked on Dynatek’s website and they don’t list DC11-01, but they do list a DC11-1. I’m in the market for new coils, just want to make sure I purchase the correct ones for the 500.

Thanks,

Dirk

Yeah, it's DC11-1 that I have fitted.

I must have seen -01 somewhere but it's -1 on their website and on the box.

Cheers.

Any updates on these Dyna coils on performance or regrets/likes?

It is looking like l may need a set on my modified 500.

Or any better ones on the market?
