It should have a white electric plug,if it’s red a 350ypvs switch has been fitted

You can buy a decal for the top of the switch to tidy it up
My ignition switch does indeed have the YM-4 also. I would be pretty surprised if someone made an aftermarket ignition switch for these bikes? I can't see them selling too many of those but I could be wrong? From what my better half tells me this is often the case, lol.

LOL!

I would think any aftermarket would be generic enough to fit other Yams of the era.

Pretty sure my plug is white, not got it handy to check tho...

I guess I just need the decal. Does the YM-4 get covered by the decal or is there a cut out on these? It looks like they are cut out on my one and Ive not seen a ypvs decal with a cut out like that...

Loads of them available. Very easy to find. A couple of quick links below.

Finally fitted my ignition decal and checked that I do have a white plug, so thats good news in that I have an original ignition switch. Phew.

Checked my keys as well and they are two brand new Silica keys, YH31R coded, that the PO had cut so now I think he paid a locksmith to reverse cut keys from the locks.

I had a look at the A-F blank pics and determined that what my keys are is an A code, then found an A code key in another of my bikes and it slips in the locks fine. So determine that mine are an A type key. We are getting closer!

Next job is to find an OEM plastic topped A key I guess and the recode the tumblers to match the new key on all the locks.

But what type of keys did our bikes come with when new? Are yours all like this one?

And I guess I should ask.... Does anyone have any spare OEM plastic topped Yamaha A keys they arent using?

That’s the one Jon. The chunky square key. The 500 had them as oem.

Looks like Ive found a key in the UK (Cheers Nigel if you read this!).

Another interesting thing noted today, my fuel cap also has '411' on the underside, same as my ignition switch.
