My RZ500

#1 Post by WATKINS58 » Tue Aug 30, 2022 5:08 am

Hi and hello to everyone,
So after a 38 year wait, i have finally got my hands on an RZ500 YPVS. It originally came from Australia, then to South Africa and has spent the last 20 years or so in a museum, it then travelled to the UK, and thats when i managed to purchase it. I am not going to give it a full nut and bolt restoration, simply because i do want to ride the bike and to be honest it doesnt really need that much doing to it. The belly pan needs repairing and then needs going through checking everything is torqued to OEM specs.
So what have i done to it so far?
Well, I have had the swing arm out and changed all suspension bearings, replaced rear and front wheel bearings, upgraded the tapered headstock bearings, and all new seals.
I have overhauled the brakes and fitted new brake lines, new tyres and changed all the locks (and rekeyed all, so one key fits all 4 thanks to members help on this forum)
At the moment i have the forks stripped, but this is where i got some bad news, The Anti-dive assemblies are missing the adjusters on the both sides. so not really sure what to do with these, any idea's?
and also the other big issue is that Washer 22N-2319L-00 is missing from both fork internals, this is the washer that sits between the 2 Spring valves bottom of the dampner rod. All the searches i have done have come back saying these parts are no longer available. So i would really like to know what is the best option for this issue?
I will keep you all updated, with the remaining progress on my bike,

Very nice :)
Love to see a few pics of the bike..

The washer can be got here... https://www.ebay.com/itm/115074660637

As per the antidive adjusters, they are a prob to find, I think Allan Kelly used to 3d print them, FJ1200 and a few older Yamahas are the same, Pretty hard to find though...
