#1 Post by coralex » Fri Oct 24, 2008 8:41 pm

Hi,

I would like to change the complete dash board.
Do you know if it possible to install an YZF R6 or R1 dash board ?
I have to use a magnetic sensor for the speedo and i don't know how to obtain the rev counter signal.

Do you have information ?

It exist counter like that http://www.kosonorthamerica.com/index_us.html
but they are very smal --> 15 cm.

Check this link out: http://www.rzrd500.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1289

It's for a RZ350, but hooking up the tacho would be the same.

Thank you very much for helping me

The sensor is installed just in front of the front sprocket. But this is not magnetic. How does it calc the speed ??

That is a hall effect sensor that has a magnet built into the sensor itself. It will read the teeth of any ferrous metal gear/sprocket. It is called a gear speed sensor.

The type that reads a magnet is called a flying magnet sensor. Or just a speed sensor.

You can use either one. But I find reading a tooth that is already there a little easier than having some special gear with magnets in it.

Now, will the speed be accurate? Probably not. You will have to increase or decrease the pulses of the sensor to match the speed of the bike to the speed shown on the gauge cluster. You can do this with a speedo-healer. It is an electronic box that will adjust the pulses that are output the the cluster.
