even more mysterious!
Hi to all, I have joined this group seeking some help and I am now more baffled than ever! I have bought an RD500lc which I am going to restore but I am struggling to identify the actual model etc, and I can see that its never easy - I have been thru just about all of the threads and cannot find my answer - so I wonder if any of you can help, I would really appreciate it. My bike was new at first reg in UK, on 11-10-83, but the chassis no. is 12G000324 Eng. No. 35A9913700 its on an A plate Reg and all looks exactly right but the VOSA history calls it an RZV500. Please help!!
Hi, I will post a pic as soon as poss but no it has a steel frame and no adjusters etc. The frame number in the V5 is what is actually stamped on it. I am waiting for one of you to tell me its a parts bin special or something! Its red and white and the paintwork is faded it all looks about right for 1983.
the technology of uploading a photo seems to have got the better of me for now. I would think that it is an RD but why does the chassis no. not start with 47X or 1GE? and I thought that the RD was introduced in mid 1984 so have I just got a really early one? or could it be a replacement chassis from much later? Any ideas?

From the info that Steve got hold of, all models made totaled just under 14,000 bikes and the prefix's used were as follows,
47X RD500
1GE RD500
51X RZV500R
52X RZ500
53G RZ500
If its date of regestration predated the models introduction it can be narrowed down to 2 possibilitys.
First is a pre-production bike, but would not think its number would be in the 300s.
Second, is its wearing an identity from a different bike, but then would think it would not be showing as an RZV500.
