If your bike was from Australia, it would have a tag on it from Australia with a date.
My RGV VJ21 is from Australia and has a tag from the Australian government on the frame with date

I previously told you, that's exactly what I did.

Had my manufacturer's letter in two days.

This shouldn't even be an issue.
This question was originally asked on Dec 10, I contacted you on Jan 6 for your input and received it then.

Thanks again

Keep in mind, I didn't read this info on the internet. I'm holding the letter in my hand.

I have just been informed by Yamaha that they can NOT help me with ANY documentation to prove manufacture date....
Regardless the questions I asked they said the bike was too old for them to be able to help....
They said contact the import company....WTF....that is who needs the information....

It should not be this difficult.
But it is...

Canadian bikes have tags with dates
Australian bikes have tags with dates...
Japanese bikes have just 9 numbers....and that is it....

I don't know the requirements for Canada but they are allowed to be imported here and titled. I can verify, I have a frame from an imported one correctly titled 51Xooxxxx. Can you redirect it through Windsor Canada and once registered here, import a Canadian titled RZV through Detroit without an MSO? Pain in the ass but if it works?

I don't think redirecting it will be an option once the bike comes into the USA....

I will just try to collect as much info from old magazines, brochures, and any other info I can find that appear official on the internet....
I believe the first registration was 1988, but I have not seen the title to the bike yet to know for sure.
I'm pretty sure the bike will pass, but I only want to have to attempt it once....I have no idea how understanding they will be....

From government site....

You should note that the 25 year period runs from the date of the vehicle's manufacture. If the date of manufacture is not identified on a label permanently affixed to the vehicle by its original manufacturer, to establish the age of the vehicle, you should have documentation available such as an invoice showing the date the vehicle was first sold or a registration document showing that the vehicle was registered at least 25 years ago. Absent such information, a statement from a recognized vehicle historical society identifying the age of the vehicle could be used.

From Busa1300,
a statement from a recognized vehicle historical society identifying the age of the vehicle could be used
Paying for a certified appraisal with date of manufacture sounds the easiest.

Manufacture dates from Jackson.40. My serial # is 51X0012xx and was first production run started March 1984. SN 51x000101 to 51X002700 2nd run late 1984/early 1985 was 51X020101 to 51X21200.

Can you Fedex a label and have them stick it on the frame in the same place as the RZ before they box and ship the bike, I did this with my RZV to get through..

I just got a copy of title
Shows bike was registered/titled in year 60
Which means 1985....as far as I can find.
So....problem basically solved, although I never did find what I originally set out to find.
Oh well, probably won’t be the last time

Consider yourself lucky

Those labels are for 17 digit VIN export bikes which have the designated export prefixes. Canada being JYA52X00 6 FA00xxxx. Y for Yamaha, H for Honda, S for Suzuki etc. You would never encounter one with a 9 digit VIN, and as such should be a big red flag to Custom Officials. An RZV500 would never have that label. They may actually seize such vehicle as it's fraudlent misrepresentation. In country shananagin's are one thing, Customs is an entirely different thing with serious legal ramifications. A friends Countach was seized upon entry from Italy in a similar situation, and there was a BIG fine levied for him to get it back many month's later.

Yea. I have went around the rules on several (many) of my other bikes. But with this bike I wanted to do it the right/legal way, as the bike was too expensive to take chances....
My vin is about 200 off from yours 51X-0014XX....first batch, but I'm guessing dealer hung onto it, or no one could afford it until mid 1985

Japanese registration with a legal[notarized] Japanese to English translation of the document should do it.
