YZR bodywork, anything new?

#1 Post by Questo vecchio rz » Wed Aug 01, 2018 3:10 pm

Need thus real soon..Anything new as for, YZR bodywork, 89-91ish style.
Looking for anyone who has a set for sale, that may not require extensive cutting n rework.

Question: regarding the Harris...how much work require to adapt to RZ.

Question: Airtech , how much cutting required?

This bike has many many Wynn parts on anyone have a set or moulds if his bodywork. Will do carbon or F. glass. Carbon only if it's moulded to RZ

If anyone has leads...buyer will buy ASAP.

Thanks for any leads.

Sadly I don’t know what happened to the 91 YZR bodywork molds Wyn had. I was in contact with his family and asked them to let me know when they were going to sell off his bike stuff. I tried a second time but have gotten no response. I know he had the molds and some RZV engine parts.

The moulds where lost long ago I believe. I ended up with 6 sets of fiberglass bodywork made from those moulds when I bought my bike from Mark Brown.

I then sold 5 of those sets onto various people in the community. I am not sure they all got used as I have never seen the finished bikes crop up for show and tell.

So those sets may still be sitting unused in peoples garages. I still have one slightly modded set.

Bottom line is the Harris/YEC belly needs to be widened a few inches to clear the RZ belly and the rear exhausts need to be tucked way in compared to stock for the expansion chambers to clear Harris/YEC tail section.

Airtech YZR500 stuff is easy as pie to get to fit an RZ500 frame - just widen the belly pan and tuck the rear expansion chambers in.

Wyn and I were actually co owners of the molds. He was one of the most organized and meticulous people that I know. I am certain the molds were still tucked away in his attic where he stored them. Everything he owned was organized and accounted for. Unfortunately most of it probably was trashed because no one knew what they were looking at. It’s a shame that the molds were not saved.

I believe this is the story Mark relayed to me when he inquired about them - they seem to have just gone missing after Wyn's passing :(

If there is enough interest I will let my unused set (if it is still in as good condition as I recall they should be) be used to make new moulds - but I would not be part of the process, I will just make the fairings available to be used to copy.

It's a shame they were lost. It would be nice to have that option around.

I agree, it is a shame. Wyn gave a lot to this hobby. Very sad that his fine work was cut short. Maybe some knowledgeable individual will take up RC45 on his generous offer and this cool bodywork will have a new life? One can only hope.

So.... looks like the moulds did not get destroyed.

Don't want to get stuck in the middle of any thing about a bloke I never even met, but it seems that a number of Wyn's acquaintances may have reached out during the period after his passing to try preserve various components.

It looks like some where more successful than others.

The bottom line is the moulds are in possession of a gent in the midwest that is willing to have some fairings made during the winter. If he gives the go ahead I will share his general contact details here.

Just thought folks may want to know.

Thanks for the help and information.! It appreciated.
If we don't source some bodywork by then, that just might work out.
I've informed him his only practical option at this point may well be Airtech it is what it is, he'll have to deal with the short comings of their product. Great race body work, but nothing you're going to spend $2, 000 to paint that's for sure.

That is good news! If it works out I would be interested in a set.

Thank you for the leg work on this either way it goes.

I have a set of YZR500 fairing from the Wyn molds. 1991-92 Harris fiberglass fairing. They were confirmed by RC45 and Mike Chehetti. Can't seem to load photos but if you are interested, I can email them to you.. Just send me an email to limfamfive@yahoo.com
