Motul gearbox oils?
What one to use?
Re: Motul gearbox oils?
I was expecting the usual oil battle, but no replies yet - wtf ?
My personal answer would be NOT to use Motul transoil 10W30 (which is the YAMAHA spec for the RDs).
I always used Bel Ray MC-4 and tried the above Motul. Immediate reaction: clutch not fully separating and hard to shift. Changing with MC4 again and it was fine.
Unfortunately they don't sell it anymore, but the current BelRay GearSaver Transoil does the same job.

Spectro Golden Gear Lube, SAE 80. Excellent clutch feel (engagement and release) and smooth shift action. Quality goes in the bottle, not into advertising or dealer profit. Try it after using Bel Ray or Motul and see what you think - should be a noticeable difference.

Looks like I will have to go with Bel Ray or Motul. Nobody stocks Spectro SAE 80 anywhere in OZ.Bengt Weil wrote:Spectro Golden Gear Lube, SAE 80. Re: Motul gearbox oils?
I use Amsoil Severe Gear 75/90 in my bikes. Have used it for many years. Great performance and no issues. Will keep using it as long as I own motorcycles.
Re: Motul gearbox oils?
Btw: The Bel Ray juice is available in 75 and 80 viscosity. My bottles say 80W.

Decades ago I sometimes used Putoline motocross gearbox oil which also was a 75/80W oil.
I guess any decent product with that viscosity will do. The mentioned Motul 10W-30 was much "thicker" than the Bel Ray which explained the experienced issues to me.

Re: Motul gearbox oils?
Penrite MC4ST works very well. Used it in a number of bikes along with their 2 stroke oil. There is selector on their website, have a look. I'm not a cheapskate particularly on oils, but it is a fraction of the cost of many others and widely available from Super cheap Auto and Repco. Penrite have a great autosports heritage, so I have faith in them. I use their oils in all my bikes.
Re: Motul gearbox oils?
Sorry MC4ST 10/30 for the 500 that is.
Re: Motul gearbox oils?
Penzoil 50W Racing oil. In both bike with never an issue.

Re: Motul gearbox oils?
I use this in mine:
https://www.silkolene.com/motorcycle/ge ... oil-light/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Always have done, always will do. It's the right spec and it does the job.

Re: Motul gearbox oils?
Hi, I used Motul for awhile was never happy with it, after talking to a few people
in the industry switched over to Castrol ATF DEX111 auto trans oil and gave it a go.
Has been really good so far no clutch drag when it's cold positive shifts and the oil
doesn't froth up, only been using for a few rides so far all good.
Cheers Ron.
