You may want to ask for a pair of gloves for Christmas - LOL

Nice! I always thought the 3XVs were timeless, and the SP is icing on the cake, can't wait to see you give it 'the treatment'.

Picked up the 3XV2 a couple days ago in Chicago.
It's going to be a project, but luckily it is complete with all the correct SP only parts still intact....mainly the 36mm Mikuni powerjet carbs

One more money pit to the collection.....

To me those look like "investments", not money pits. Nice TZR :smt016

Sounds good but what do you do with the midrange surge

Thanks guys :smt023
I just made a set of Ron Atchison RZ500 Needles for my RZV for less than $25
Hope to get the carbs back on tomorrow for a test.....I couldn't live with the wall I hit between 5000-5500 ....
Easier to make than I thought (did it myself)
.....I'll report back if they worked or not.....

Nice one, I was always wondering if that mod actually worked, I bought a set of needles years ago to do the mod and never did it, Fitted 34mm carbs to both bikes and never looked back,
Deffo leagues better than the OEM carbs.

Happy to say that the bike goes through 5000-6000 without the slightest hesitation.....goes from 4000 to 11000 very smooth and strong. :smt007
I put 25's in place of the 22.5's and it has a soft area below 4000 now, where the 22.5 pulled good from 3000 to 5000 and then the flat spot.....but not much below 3000
So I might go back to the 22.5's with the new needles and see if there is any difference,
I will probably buy an Ivans kit along with the n-8 and o-0 needle jets as well for better fine tuning
I have a set of o-0 aftermarket (non Mikuni needle jets now)....could be an issue I do not need.
I wanted to keep my bike somewhat simple, so I stuck with the tiny 26 Mikuni.
Although I did look into boring out a set of stock carbs....with the stock reed blocks, 26's are all I can probably use anyway.

Very nice, the dry clutch .... sure wish the 500 had one.
Perhaps after it is sorted I will go through the difficult "which 250" process.
The dry clutch goes a long way in that!

I took it for a very short ride today, and although it still needs a complete go over it really ran quite well.
But comparatively....at this point my RGV250SP VJ23 handles way better, looks way better, and definitely runs stronger....
Ive committed my $$$ on this by buying it and having it shipped to me, so I will go through the process as I did with the RZV, and get it in top shape before any permanent decision is made :smt017

hmm, any thoughts comparing the these with the Aprilia?

Since the Aprilia I have is a Cup version, I have never really used it on the road....except for a few straight line trips down the road to do plug chops.... :smt018
It has a couple more HP than my VJ23, but that is because the 23 is bone stock except for the Zeel and pipes. I think the TZR/SP is comparable to the RS.

My opinion only here....
1st VJ23
2nd RS250
Tie 3rd TZR/SP and the RGV/SP VJ22
