I'm assuming you have the metal kickstand bracket thing? Seems like an offensively heavy piece of kit? At some point I was going to explore making one out of Au or Ti?

Yes, years ago I bought a complete 51X/1GG kickstand - I may install it just for the convenience of not having to prop the bike up against the wall, but it does lend legitimacy to the race bike claim :)

OK, I have decided its time to really dig through the parts boxes for this refresh and I have hauled out as many goodies not ear marked for the OW81 build as possible to try install a sense of a bike that would be at home in the mid 80's with as many top shelf updates as possible, but not make it too modern.

Magnesium 4 way throttle grip, mid 80's period Brembo CNC 40mm front calipers and dual piston light weight cast rear caliper, floating rear disc, TZ500 gear shift linkage (just for some that period look LOL), some
TT/F3 FZR400 rear sets, quick filler, TZ500 fairing brackets and I will try work in the 5KE TZ250 tach/temp gauge to free up the analog temp gauge spot for an EGT meter.

I have a few ideas for the forks, triples and swingarm - but the swingarm must use the TZ500 axle sliders :)

Holy cow went back and read this thread .....
Ran a 250j so the 500j and all that era stuff ... I just like it.
I think I need some gravel strainers to replace the heavy k&n set up!

Love the bike. Thought I'd give you an idea of what it might look like.

Its getting there - hopefully get done tonight.

I really am glad I condensed the wiring harness into 1 run :) Made the swap super simple.

336lb sans fairing may seem like a good weight, but if more is better then less must be best

Here are some of the weight savings ideas.
Who knows, maybe when combined with the frame swap I can get the bike to 310lb. :smt007
Of course steel to alloy frame.
Swapping from the 52mm ZX7RR USD to conventional OW01 43mm units.
Swap the 400RR swingarm for the TZ250 2KM
Swap from 180/55 to 160/60
Switch from steel to alloy tank

Current ZX7 triples with RZ steel steering stem 4.9lb
OW01 triples with alloy steering stem 3.94lb
or YZR250 triples with alloy stem 2.6lb
Potential 2.5lbs off

Next are the clipons and levers.
Current CNC Tachyon with CRG CNC lightweight levers are 1.28lb on the clutch side.
Desired YZR250 tipping in at 0.78lb
Currnet CNC Tachyon and throttle grip 1lb
Intended YZR250 clipon with TZ500 throttle 0.8lb

Now we aren't counting the front brake master and lever yet, but I am planning to switch from the CRG CNC to a period alloy and Brembo master - so maybe a wash.
Butit seems there may be close to 1lb saved in the bars

CBR400RR swingarm 15.2lb
87 TZ250 12lb
Potential 3lb off the rear

Happy New Years. Now you need to sit on the scale. You know we all are aware of it and especially moving weight on top the bike. Petrucci looked anorexic last year at start of season. Great info.

Nah, I'd rather build a period looking lightweight than give up food :)

Here are the next possible weight trimmings and a test fitting of the 87 TZ250 swingarm. I will work on getting that swingarm ready for installation later, but for now the CBR400 swinger is going back on, but thats a 3lbs saving right there.
So far the dream diet running total is 18lbs, without alloy tank or forks weight savings, for a potential bike weight f 318lbs.

Black Marvic magnesium TZ250 wheel (incl. rotor, sprocket & bearings) with 180 series rubber 22.7lb
Gold Marvic TZ250 wheel (incl. rotor, sprocket & bearings) with 160 series donut 21.8lb.
So potentially about 1bl shaved with the period appropriate width tire.

Regular cast Brembo 40mm calipers with near worn out pads 4lb
Series 1 1986 CNC Works equipment Brembo 40mm calipers with near new pads 3.6lb - another 1/2lb or so gone :)

Hey rc45, my brain just clicked and I have the remains of my buddy's 1985 FZ 750 in a shed. It had a fuel leak and burnt a friends house down 30 years ago. Why I harp on that shit so much. The same suspension like RZ with vertical shock. I'm going to drag it out and get a picture. Since your going alum frame you could build a steel gp replica with what you've got.
