Auction ended at 4200 GBP and reserve not met. That is $5600 US or $7250 Cdn or 4800 Euro. Madness.

John,

Considering a Phase III build of mine will run almost $9,000.00 US the price for a complete engine at $5,600.00 is a steal! I know that Stan has a great reputation but also know from folks that have used both of us to tune for them that his Stage III is no where what my Phase III is internally. So, no, that price isn't really madness at all.

The engine is owned by a Robin Titterington from Lisburn, Ireland.

IMHO - Why not buy a Bimota V Due engine from Piero in Italy complete with Carbs and ready to use for £6500 and you also get around 145BHP with this.

I might have a RD500 engine for sale

Fully Rebuilt using all the correct Yamaha gaskets - Blue Printed - TZ Dry Clutch & Hydraulic clutch mechanism fitted - Stage 3 tune and this engine is complete with all auxiliary parts - £6,500 and its ready to fit.

I have never seen a rebuilt engine without all the required bits sell for £6500?

Thanks Ade

Because you can't just drop it into a RZ500 chassis. Everything would be custom from the engine outward. You'd spend another $10,000 when all said and done to do it anywhere near right.

If you've got the money to spend $10,000 building a highly modified RD500 engine I doubt the cost of modifying an RD500 frame to accommodate a VDue engine would be a concern.

It seems those $10,000 RD500 engines seldom end up in RD500 frames.

John,

Actually quite the contrary actually. 99% of the clients that get these builds do put them in a factory or modified factory chassis. Very few of the replica bikes out there have much more than a stock engine with pipes on them. Kinda in reverse or the way it should be I would think.

I hear that the RZ500 engine is limited to any horsepower over 120 and that is stretching it.

I've been wondering about a highly modified RZ500 engine for some time. How is it for longevity once the engine is that highly modified, and stressed? They can be fragile in stock form; how do they hold up with a stage 3 or stage 4 tune?

I really like this idea.

Been toying with it for a while now.

I think the legend of the V Due, is kinda like the Kawasaki triples of 4 decades ago, while great bikes, there's a little more legend than reality, as time goes by.
I think one may be hard pressed to see a V Due deliver 120 h.p. on a Dyno, let alone 145 h.p.
A owner I know has a Gamna 500, mildly enhanced with the average modifications, and frankly was substantially faster than his V- Due.
The Gamna made 108 h.p on a Dynojet, when he got it tuned. V-Dues were rated anywhere from 105-120 if I recall correctly? I can't see them gaining 20-25 Xtra h.p. ?

Yeah, I'll believe it only if I saw it with my own two eyes, I've seen a couple if so called 120 h.p. RZ500s over the years riding, from my perspective, if they can't keep up with a mildly modified 88-90 GSXR 750(slingshot) there not making anywhere near 120.

As for costs of a motor 5 years ago people even (some here) were saying 5k for a new or rebuilt motor was excessive..I think it's common now to accept the fact, that's frankly bottom of the barrel pricing
Consider a 4mm stroker motor as the one im having built for my Banshee, goes for anywhere from as low as $ 2400.00- +$ 5000.00 + depending upon spec.

Just thinking aloud....
