Protecting Wiring / Spiral Wrap & Split Tubing

#1 Post by tonyhes » Wed Jan 06, 2021 10:50 pm

Hello,

I'm looking to protect wiring from getting damaged over time.
The original RZ harness (at least I believe it came with this) has split tubing protecting some of it.

With the addition of a aftermarket Speedo/Tach, changes to the rear sub-frame and its cable routing there is more to protect.
I'm thinking of shrink wrap and spiral wrap on the outside...

I don't have too much experience but I don't I don't want to fudge wiring... Am I on the right track to protecting the wiring?
Any recommendations?

Thank you,
Tony

Vintage connections and other harness supply places sell some really nice tape and tubing for this application.

But after doing extreme modifications to my harness I used below in addition to vinyl tubing here and there.

From my notes...

Pulled harness and wrapped with Scotch 2242 black tape. Very thick rubber high temp electrical tape type material. This really came out looking nice although one of those things that nobody sees.

How about this modern style nylon stuff sealed with shrink wrap at the ends?

Thank you gentlemen. I have a newer GSXR... I think I've been spoil by the wiring and connectors there.
The RZ stuff just looks dinosaur to me.
Will try to get nylon, larger heat shrink and proper tape as shown.

Thanks Again
Tony.

I was going to pimp my race bike and ordered that nylon stuff, too. That's why I had the link at hand.
If it works as expected, I'll order some more for future repairs / updates.
