Well this is a shitty development. I have a tiny bit of history with it...I BOUGHT THIS BIKE OVER 6 MONTHS AGO!! The events; a friend lives about 1 mile SE of the storage facility in Fenelon Falls where this bike was. He called me almost a year ago and said a lady was selling this gamma as her brother owned it but had past away. I said of course so he started to make a meeting date. Finally got one for a sunday last march. We stood in the snow waiting for Sue. When she was 20 minutes late he text her. She messaged back, said she forget about the meeting and would have to be another day. Luckily I am less than 1 hour drive away. We finally work out a new meeting, mid june. At 10 minutes late I thought oh no, not again, but she pulled in at 100 mph with car half full of kids. I saw the bike, informed her these are $20K bikes when in top mech/body shape and do not let anyone tell her it is a $300 barn find. She appreciated my honesty and said she already did her research. I asked for the number knowing anything under 13K and I would buy it on the spot. She said 10K, I said sold. She then said we can't do it today as she had her grand children in the car, had more errands to run that day, meet a friend later, plus she left the ownership and key at her house in Bobcaygeon. I tried to give her a few hundred $ but she would have to search her purse for a pen/paper to give a receipt. So she reached out and said a handshake seals the deal (even though we were starting into a pandemic the handshake was concrete...or so she told me) I gave her my biz card then also text her from my wifes cell when I got home. She wrote back thanks, will be in touch soon. Fast forward to near labour day. Have not heard from Sue so I rang. Told her I have 10K burning a hole in my pocket. Lets get this done. She claims to have little spare time and can not find the ownership but will ring shortly. I do not want to hassle her so I am patient. Now it's Halloween. I ring again and get the same response. I do not want that bike in uncontrolled climate for another winter. She said she will ring shortly. I was preparing to contact her again this weekend but I saw this post. This type of thing is wrong, always has been, always will be. (nothing directed at you Pete, I'm sure you didn't know) Anyone wanting to state their displeasure regarding her behaviour please feel free. I know text works and I know voice works as I just got off the phone with her mere minutes ago. She answered, I immediately confronted her. "Sue, why did you breach our contract, Sue, why did you renege on our deal, Sue, is your handshake that worthless? I expect an answer NOW." I got 20 seconds of "um.....um.....um" At that point I stopped the um parade. Hope I didn't wreck the phone when I slammed it down. After she made the deal with me she must have thought she wanted more money. She should have reached out to me. Anyway, enjoy the gamma.

I'm speechless! Really sorry for what happened to you.

This was one of the reasons why I did not buy this bike.
There was a huge disconnect between the deceased (Tim's) wife and the rest of the family.

That sucks Andy. It once again shows that by nature many people tend to be selfish and stupid. In the end, she'll get what she deserves.

Wow Andy, that really sucks. I would be fuming myself, just plain wrong period. No excuses especially considering your total honesty with her as per market value.

The excuse/delay may have been due to who had the legal right to sell the bike. More likely the wife than the sister, but that may have changed in the interim.

Indeed I didn't know and I am sorry that you are understandably upset. All I can say is that Sue was extremely good with me. FWIW she didn't give me her bottom number on the bike, she gave an idea of what she thought it was worth - and I made her an offer which she accepted. My buddy and I were there the better part of the day between checking everything out, doing the deal, loading up etc. Over the course of that time she talked a lot about her brother Tim and it was obvious that she was very fond of him. She showed me pictures from his racing days, explained how he had travelled to Thailand and worked on Jackie Chan movies etc. Our conversation was wide-ranging. I found out that she was a retired paramedic, for which she has my respect - that is not a job that I would want or could probably even tolerate. The whole thing became more visit than business transaction. Later in the afternoon when she was looking at the Gamma loaded up and strapped down she got a little weepy and asked if I could send her some pictures when I got it back on the road. Like I said, she obviously was close with her brother. She also off handedly mentioned that she had been paying $250/month for that storage unit and the bike sale was part of cleaning it out so she could be rid of that expense. Assuming she's been paying that since Tim passed, she would be 11 or 12 grand deep in rental cost over these years. Maybe that was her motivation for wanting more money? Maybe she still hadn't come to terms with selling the bike? Maybe there was some other reason the whole thing went south? All pure speculation, but it's never good to judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes.

Welcome to the Group Pete! It is a nice looking RG with an interesting history for sure.

As far as the PO sister not following through on the original hand shake deal, sucks big time for him and WIN for you. I think most of use have had the rug pulled out from under us on various deals, surely not many as large as an RG500. The fact is the deal is not a deal until the Bike is in your truck or trailer and pulling onto the highway. The take away is if you find a deal jump on it, not to say it was not for lack of trying to close the deal. I had a “deal” lined up for a TZR250 locally but someone offered more before I could get there and he took the higher offer. That’s life, I was pissed but nothing I could do!

I agree this is over the line on a public forum. Honourable discourse is the standard I strive for and I understand the upset, but this is not the place for revenge. I have had 2 beautiful NSR's sold from under me after a verbal agreement of sale. Possession is in the end the only real proof of purchase. Fortunately for me, he happened to have 2 left from his bike shop and promptly made me an incredible deal to make up for it. It was an emotional rollercoaster. It was only later after getting the bikes from BC that I realized the 2nd deal was a real score. True story.

I collected a few bins of stock RG parts when I bought the bike, but an uncut fender was not one of them. I had never really considered putting the bike back to stock since so many changes have been made, plus I do plan on riding the bike which will undoubtedly be much better the way it is configured. That being said, I have a lot of the takeoff parts plus some extras. In addition to what I already have, I would need the aforementioned rear fender, plus stock wheels and pipes to go back to original. Of course the bodywork would need to be sorted as well and I'm not sure that ultimately it all would be worthwhile. I am getting a bit of a sense that Rick Lance putting his touches on an RG has some sort of cachet in itself and doesn't negatively affect the value that much.

However I may try to collect the bits required in case some future owner wants to take it in that direction.
