Asbestos use on RZV500R
Hi everyone, I have asked this question on a couple of other forums and have not come up with a definitive answer. I need some advice about what parts could contain asbestos as I am relocating from NZ to Australia who have banned asbestos since 2003 and I need to declare that to the best of my knowledge my bike doesn't have it. If there are any Aussie guys on here, have any of you recently imported bikes and how was the process? Parts of concern are packing used in exhausts, the cloth like material on the battery box and any other heat protection material used on the bodywork. I have replaced brake pads over the years for more modern materials and if I had any doubts they are easy just to remove them, I've contacted Yambits asking about materials used in their exhaust gaskets and other gasket material and they are all asbestos free as the UK has banned the material for 20 years. Does anyone know if or when Yamaha used or stopped using asbestos in parts? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Gaz

Surely the answer is just to state " I declare that to the best of my knowledge my bike does not contain asbestos parts"....Go looking for problems and you can always find them!
Re: Asbestos use on RZV500R
Thats exactly what I would do, You could just remove the lower exhausts or silencers and bring them separate,

Re: Asbestos use on RZV500R
I think that there is no asbestos in the RD500/RZ500 exhausts and silencers - I think they rely on steel baffles inside - somewhere on the internet there is a cutaway of the exhausts to show the baffles - I can't find it at the moment.
