Engine stalling
Hi guys need some help.
Bike starts fine (first kick)but will idle for a minute and then stall. I’ll try starting it again but won’t start ,but if I turn the key off/on it will start fine and idle for a minute and then stall again. First thought was fuel running out but then why does turning the key off/on make it start again.
Any help would greatly appreciated.

Hi Ange,
Does this technique work every time? What happens if you ride it?

Re: Engine stalling
I can’t ride it because it keeps stalling, even if I hold the revs higher it still dies out

Re: Engine stalling
Does it die sooner with higher revs?
May be a kinked fuel line or air in line due to routing.
The key thing is likely just a time factor.
As always I could be wrong, but thats what I'd look for first.

Re: Engine stalling
Might try running it with the fuel cap off just to rule out a tank venting issue.
Restarting after cycling ignition is a strange one. It seems a heat related failure in the CDI would take longer to cool down and allow a restart.

Re: Engine stalling
Looks like a faulty CDI. Check if you have sparks when this happens.
Re: Engine stalling
Hi guys thanks for your reply’s
I did find that it did stall quicker when revving
I did try running with the fuel cap off didn’t help l also tried running with the tank up and still stalled and it is wired that once it stalls I can kick it 10 times and won’t start but if I turn key off/on it starts first kick but then stalls.the cdi is new zeeltronic if that could be the cause.

Re: Engine stalling
What’s the best way to check for spark
Re: Engine stalling
How's your battery?
If you have a Zeeltronic, it'll require a stable 12V supply.
As soon as voltage drops below some 8-10V, the ignition won't work and that'll stall the bike.
Weak batteries drop voltage quickly when loaded and recover when disconnected. That would match your observation.
PV operation and lights is such kind of load to battery.
You may switch that off or disconnect for testing.
Simply measure the battery voltage at the next try and you'll see immediately.
A working charging system should have 13-14.5V with a running engine.

Re: Engine stalling
The battery is 3 years old and I put it on trickle charger before. But in the three years it hasn’t seen much riding only a lot of starting. Even thou it charged up ok could it still be faulty. Thanks for your reply.
Re: Engine stalling
Hi guys it’s been awhile but I finally done some tests on the bike.
Put a new battery but still have the problem. What I have noticed is that when the bike stalls it has no spark but if I turn the key off then on again it has spark again. What could be causing this. I have a new zeeltronic cdi which was working before. Tia.

Re: Engine stalling
Finally checked the bike and once the bike stalls there is no spark but then if. I turn the key off and on it has spark again could this be the cdi
I have a new zeeltronic cdi which was working before,
Could it need resetting.

Re: Engine stalling
Unlikely but could be the ignition switch itself,I have had a 350 one cause this fault.Easy enough to rule out.
Please keep diesels from our roads
