Needle Valve bowl gasket

#1 Post by LC Cnd » Thu Dec 14, 2017 11:36 am

Ethanol is just killing these gaskets in my LC. Heard a remedy was to smear gas resistant gasket paste on the rubber but I imagine that action would glue the bowl in permanently into the carb and residual paste could potentially block the orfice at the bottom of the bowl when pushing it into the carb. Other that buying the whole assembly for the bowl, does anyone know where to buy just the rubber gasket that fits?

i use a gas resistant grease on leaky petcocks that works good.
"Gas EZ" rings a bell, but i will post the proper name if i am in error.
there must be an o-ring to suit for pennies.

You should be using Esso premium or Shell V premium. No ethanol.

It looks like an oring from the picture. I would think it would be possible to source one that is made of viton...But as Rory said if you have ethanol free fuel available then I would use that if feasable.

Not all the surrounding communities have Chevron (no ethanol) available & are beyond the gas tank capacity. Did some micrometer measurments and the closest is a M1 Vitron O Ring 75 Durameter (might be a bit hard) 7mm ID, 9mm OD, 1mm thickness might do the trick. Learnt that vasoline is the choice of lubricant for the o-ring installation as it washes away when in contact with heat or fuel. Apparently vasoline is also used to put transmissions together - i.e hold bearings in place during re-assembly. Apart from the usual searches, off to hunt for the o-ring(s) in parts shops to see if they do fit properly.

Do yourself a favor and search Pure-gas.org and find ethanol free stations near you. Fyi they list 795 in Florida alone.
Red/White US '84, Spec II pipes, Y-boot w/K&N, Fox Shock, Mikuni carbs?

Yes, that pure gas site is awesome! I use it when traveling too.

That O ring looks to be a special size/ design with none of my Viton kits matching it. Will still watch for a perfect match one for some needed spares.

Found a photo of the stuff on a Kawi site. Tryed to purchase if on an aircraft website but did not work(?). It appears EZ is quite specialized as I did not see it for purchase on Amazon. May have found a Viton o ring (.50 each) that may match RZ/RD one on a tractor website - go figure. Price is sorta alright but not sure about the size. Found nitrle one that fits so close and with the EZ Turn that would be plan B. Its the cross section diameter, of the o ring, that the tricky bit to provide the right squish factor. The closest I found was an M1 (standard mft size). Suspect there is a supplier out there somewhere in South East Asia producing these bits at .05 a unit or less 4 Alibaba abeit with a min order of 1000 or so.

I have a set of TZR250 downdraft carbs that are just destroyed by ethanol. I'll post pics when I find them. It eats aluminum.

The left o ring is stock; the right what is in the package. The new one is taller but literally 'clicked' in place. Problem solved for $3 (got 20) outta Vancouver. The item lists it as FPM which is the same material as Viton hence ethanol resistant. What a money saver! Cheers - Scott.
