There are two rubber backed mounting spacers. One front, one back. They go on opposite sides. Don't know how "critical" they are but should be cheap and easy to source. Go to Boats.net and plug in the part number.

When you open the throttle (in gear) the engine wants to rotate counter clockwise (from the top), these dampers/spacers butt up against the case and frame to resist this. If they are not there the engine will move as far as the rubber mounts will let it until the case contacts the frame. I bought some this past summer from the dealer, but they are a bit different in the middle than original and much harder to install on the engine mount sleeve. They were probably superseded to the Banshee equivalent a few years ago.

Dunno when you last bought these bare, but no longer a $3 part sadly... more like $15each. Every motor Ive worked on recently needed a set, they were all split. :(

Son Wicked shipped the engine last August and during the 2017 winter I installed the motor, took some time as something was missing all the time.. Finally the engine was installed, bleed the oil pump, fill the tank with fuel and starts on first kick! I put air in the tires to the correct pressure try a test ride. 1st gear and goes, try to upshift, gear its stuck. WTF!!! I called Roger at Wicked and they tell me to keep riding it as the new clutch plates must be sticking for sitting too long before installing the engine in the bike. Rode 3 more times, could not shift. Some said to adjust the clutch screw in the clutch, but Roger said dont mess with it. Finally took it to my usual mom and pop bike shop Johns Cycles, tried to adjust the clutch cable with a spacer and no go too. They kept the bike and a day later they tell me that some of the new clutch plates were bended and some clutch springs were different sizes. After buying a new clutch kit with new springs, bike runs and shifts perfectly. I m gonna call Roger see if he can explain the crappy job on the clutch, $2000 for a job half done.

I think he is referring shifter forks.
1985 Canadian Rz350. Restored with collector plates. Stock VM26, Triumph Calipers, Galfer brake lines. Brand new DG’s, 260 main, 22.5 pilot jet. Economy pre-load adjusters. Ohlins shock. Oem Banshee crank.

So the finally was put together after the engine rebuild by wicked, more problems arise, like a new clutch plates that were bent and dif. size springs used by Wicked. After sorting it out with new clutch kit and weird carb problems, then bike runs great for exception of the clutch again. Shifts fine if you are moving but a stop can get it out of 1st to get to neutral when it gets hot . My mechanic says its ok, I asked him if he used gear oil in the bike, nope he says. Used 10w40 motorcycle oil. He did this because its a wet clutch. what you guys think? regular oil or synthetic gear oil?

people do fit 2 types of clutch spring at times, gives a part way feeling to a more solid clutch with an easier lever.
you shouldnt have needed a spacer in the clutch cable if it was the right one, so dunno why they thought that a good idea as there is plenty of adjustment in the pusher and the cable.
bent plates is weird, warped is possible, but rare.
gear oil can effect the clutch plates, but its usually better when warm as its thinner. any motorcycle oil will be ok with clutch plates, just not car oil and then they slip more than grab.
when parked these bikes always had a hard time with gears, you often needed to slip the clutch a bit or roll the bike and clutch it when its off to get neutral. you could get an ezi shift or do a shift star mod search this forum for those, they help. also check the adjustment of the shift shaft, it adjusts.

I had a similar problem after a full rebuild, however it was nothing to do with the clutch or springs
It was a brand new gear shift shaft
The two teeth that engage on the shift star were too sharp and refused to engage second or third gears because the lip of the upward and bottom teeth wouldn't engage the next lug on the star refusing to let go of the ones it was on
I replaced it with used one I still had and now it works perfectly
It's an easy check, just remove the one you have and replace it with a used one, provided the shaft itself isn't worn where the seal sits and one you can do with the engine in situ
Be careful installing it as you can damage the seal, and don't forget to put in the ball bearing that may fall out
