What PWK28 to use????

#1 Post by Redline Junkie » Wed Oct 19, 2016 9:29 pm

I have one new PWK28 part number 15003-1617. Is this the correct one to use? I see some people use 15003-1643. What is the difference?

I dont know which part number the ones I bought are but the differences might be dependent on what model bike they are for. I think the difference might be the jetting that is installed in the carb. If so it does not matter since you will be changing the jetting anyway.

I'm with Jack, it's a model variation from the OEM with different jetting, the base carb is the same. You will need to substitute angled tops which you can purchase from here; http://www.winnerscirclecanada.com/pdf/ ... e_2016.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Go to page 180 for PWK 28 stuff.

Ok thanks guys, that is good news. What is a good range of jets to buy for these carbs when running Spec 2 pipes, fresh bores/pistons with OEM crank, O-ring head, v-force 4 reeds and running at sea level? Also where is the best place to buy the jets?

Thanks

RuZty, looking like the link you provided might be the spot to get the jets!

Yep, they have it all. Your setup is identical to mine, I'll look into what I installed and get back to you. Still using the airbox right?

JJH Needles, 40 airs and 130 mains.
Runs Absolutely perfectly.
More mods to My motor than yours.
Airbox (Drilled etc) still fitted though as it makes Mo' power than anything else... on a: Not dedicated for Race only, engine

What throttle cable are you guys using on the 28mm PWK carbs?
Reason for question is I would like to use the Autolube.
Thanks

I used the stock RZ (non-US) cable and modified the carb end cables by shortening the outer to allow for the longer pull of the PWK's.

I think Roger has cables specially made for pwk & auto lube.

That might be an easier solution in the US; http://www.wickedatv.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I think he's too busy to maintain a website, you have to contact him for parts. For price comparison the last Canadian cable I bought was about $75 CDN (about $60 US).

There is a bicycle steering stem spacer that makes these fit perfectly in the manifolds, find the PWK thread on here, it gives the dimensions. I got them at the first bike shop I went to.

Ditto for me.

I'm sure Bare will pop in with a contrary 'keep it simple' opinion :smt002 but I found starting cold with only the left choke to be less than ideal and trying to use both was a pain in the ass. The chokes and cable from 98-03 VT750 Shadow is a bolt on and allows you to set both the same and gives you incremental setting instead of just on/off.
I made a bracket to mount the knob on the left upper frame stay bracket. The 88-98 VT600 is the same except a very short cable between the knob and the splitter.

I used a different housing from another yam and have them on my LH bar switches, you can also use TZR250 (tandem) flip switch as well. Part way down this page:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4650&start=705" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(and thats a 45 deg carb top 'pipe' from Allens and OEM non-usa cable)
