Oil Injection Identification & Advice

#1 Post by pxgallagher » Sun Dec 18, 2016 2:31 pm

I picked up a project RZ350 and was hoping someone could help me in understanding the oil injection system.

Can anyone identify my situation based on the hopefully attached picture?

1) The tank looks smaller than stock, and appears to be capped off. Is the oil then merely circulating through this reservoir?
2) Assuming I no longer have an operational oil pump, how difficult would it be to revert back to an oil injected system? That would be my preference.

* note the battery is not in the stock location. Is this a normal set up (i.e, I know it is not stock ... but perhaps a standard aftermarket product?)

Also, I drained the gas tank. The oil APPEARS to be clear ... is merely viewed the fuel in a glass container a valid approach to determining if the previous owner was pre-mixing? That is, can I see if there is oil in the fuel?

Thanks,

Best to locate a Version of a workshop manual

As a start point. Your Bike has had a LOT of adhoc changes.
IMO imortant to fully understand what was supposed to be there..
Before some Twit altered things. Then decide what needs fixin.
Likely Clever to NOT run the thing until then

Bare - appreciate the insight ... the good news is that I have another "stock-ish" RZ350 so I know what is supposed to look like and, yes, it looks like he has really altered the bike. He has aftermarket Mikuni's on there .... so I don't think the oil tank is feeding them.
