Crank building

#1 Post by 4cyl h2 » Mon Dec 19, 2016 1:53 pm

I've got my 4cylinder rd350 cases ready to build and I need 1 of the cranks to have a gear drive end on both ends to hook the cranks together does anybody know if the aftermarket cranks use the same diameter pins and holes in the crank wheels I'm hoping to use 1 of my original crank ends to replace the tapered end on one of the new cranks any help would be much appreciated. I'm assuming most anybody who has rebuilt some cranks will know

Interesting site. Haven't seen it before. Have you used them on a project or know some who has

Know a few people who used their rotating assemblies in cars. They haven't had any issues with them, and one is a fairly stout street/strip combination (blown 700hp fox body Mustang).

Reads like an interesting project.
Bit skeptical re the thai (or whatever) copy cranks you are ? using though.
These are Cheap/Nasty things.
Not something to base a complex bespoke build around IMO.
Pound foolish comes to mind.

What's the real problem with these cranks. Is actual longevity a problem? Or rebuild ability main thing I need is 1 crank to have a gear drive end on both ends. Wondering if one of the ones I have can be installed on the new crank to replace tapered end

Twister crankshafts also can put together whatever you want. They make cranks for 3 and 4 cylinder Banshee based engines.

Collect up a couple of used genuine cranks and use the best parts to rebuild them into what you need. I would use genuine Yamaha cranks as you know the balance and finished sizes are consistent. Not so sure about aftermarket bits from batch to batch and Never mix the two...

You should be able to press an outer drive flywheel to either end of a centre sub assembly but sometimes the micro splines make it harder to true up.

Neat project...

Thanks for the tip on cranks I've been busy with getting some mods and welding done on chassis and swingarm. Decided to go drag extended look and slowly working on porting. hoping to gather parts and keep it a budget project I'm looking for rd350 cylinders and rd350 and banshee cranks
