Have I missed anything?
Premix conversion on a stock 84 RZ350:
1. Buy:
Blanking plate
250 Main jets? (please advise)
Carb gaskets
Blanking plugs
1L Auxiliary tank
2. Disconnect oil reservoir and lines
3. Blank off oil nipples
4. Drain float chambers
5. Change main jets
6. Replace carb gaskets with new ones
7. Adjust air screw? (please advise)
8. Test with auxiliary tank 25:1(still breaking in)
And if all goes well:
9. Drain gearbox oil
10. Replace pump with blanking plate
11. Replace gearbox oil
12. Remove tank/lines/level sensor
Have I missed anything?
Also, I want to use 32:1 after breakin, should I go back to 240 mains?

Re: Have I missed anything?
If I was doing that job I would remove the oil pump first then reassemble and then work on the carbs. Reason being, if you disconnect the oil lines/reservoir and then run the engine, the oil pump will be running without oil.
You also have to drain the radiator/waterpump of coolant to remove the oil pump drive, so factor in a new clutch cover gasket if the old one doesn't come off in one piece.

Never increased jet size due to lack of oil pump. Doesn't mean its not the way to do it. Where are you? Elevation likely to be more important...Stock usually rich for us up here at 3000 feet.

Yeah I'll probably have the pump on a loopwinner_evo wrote:If I was doing that job I would remove the oil pump first then reassemble and then work on the carbs. Reason being, if you disconnect the oil lines/reservoir and then run the engine, the oil pump will be running without oil.

I'm at 240ft altitude in New Zealand which has a temperate climate.evan_calgary wrote:Never increased jet size due to lack of oil pump. Doesn't mean its not the way to do it. Where are you? Elevation likely to be more important...Stock usually rich for us up here at 3000 feet.
Re: Have I missed anything?
Why would you do such a thing on a roadbike? I've done it plenty on racebikes, but the pumps work well and save hassle. Can be rebuilt as well.
Also I've never changed a float gasket in my life. Well OK, on my 1970 Stinger perhaps.

I'm not getting into that debate.(F5) wrote:Why would you do such a thing on a roadbike? I've done it plenty on racebikes, but the pumps work well and save hassle. Can be rebuilt as well.
I think I'll err on the side of caution go up one main jet size, do I need to change/adjust anything else carb wise?
Re: Have I missed anything?
Only a debate.. IF you wish to turn it into one.
Pumps work exceptionally well actually.
Oil delivery is proportionate to Rpms.
Don't trust it?
Relish carrying a Jug of Oil at all times ?
Then Add some Oil to the fuel tank at each Fuel fill up.
That should cover most Neuroses

What am I missing here? 25:1? Then 32:1? Err on the side of too rich. Wholly fuck, everyone is out to run their smoker too rich!!! Then they don't ride them hard enough. WTF.
What exactly are you trying to do here? Run a street bike premix? Why? Are you just fucking around? What are you doing?!
Have you ever done a plug chop? Do you know how the bike is running right now? You need to find a 2stroke mechanic.
Here we go again guys. Really getting sick of running too rich. Just had to say this stuff, as I madly shake my head.
I think what I need to say is don't err period. Know your jetting, learn to jet. One step at a time. If these bikes run right, they don't smoke like crazy. It's no wonder the 2strokes have such a bad rap.

Wish I had an oil pump on my CRF500af. What a. Feckin pita trying to figure out the oil ratio when out and about plus carrying the feckin oil all the time.

Re: Have I missed anything?
OK so if you go into plastic box if your town has one, they sell 100ml polythene bottles. I run 40:1 TTS which is fine for my bigbore road RZ (I'd run a squat more for racing) and supercheap sell it reasonably, then for every 4 litres pour a bottle in and shake. Easy to store on the bike. But I've not done much ks yet so it will probably get a modded oil pump at a later date.

I didn't ask how to mix fuel. Doesn't matter evan_calgary already answered my questions over PM.(F5) wrote:OK so if you go into plastic box if your town has one, they sell 100ml polythene bottles. Sorry for trying to be helpful. Clearly you are royalty and I approached from the wrong direction without bowing my head far enough. Don't worry it won't happen again your grace.
