Where to find OEM Piston Rings?!?!

#1 Post by pxgallagher » Mon Jan 16, 2017 5:56 pm

Putting an RZ350 engine back together and I need piston rings for OEM pistons ..... are they really $80/pair and only to be shipped from Japan or some guy in Chile? Am I missing an easier option ... ?

Here's a set of rings for a standard (64 mm) piston.
They are listed a Banshee rings, but they are the same as the RZ350.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Yamaha-YFZ3 ... 2417217334" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The same seller also has 3 sets of Standard rings for the 86+ RZ350,
Part Number 1UA-11610-00-00.

I know the seller and he has them in stock, but just hasn't got around to listing them on Ebay.

He also has 1 set of 1st over (64.25mm) Banshee rings in stock but not listed.

The only parts you can't buy for the RZ350 engine, OEM, are Pistons.

Recent development? I bought some 2 years ago, would have thought with Banshees being made up to 2005 or so they would have pistons covered for the rest of my riding life.

Yama Only supplied 2 oversizes in Pistons and Rings.
One can fit Banshee intended ones though.
Important to note that OEM RZ ring sets included the Wiggly expander ring.
V clever to fit one. As in it's important.. there are no 'extra' parts, at least in a street used engine.
Preferably oem though as the Riken ones are Sketchy. Oem ones don't normally break. Riken ones.. welll feeling lucky?
That spring ring served to keep the Piston centred in the bore .. reducing, even possibly preventing Piston slap noises.
It's easy to identify an engine assembled without the wiggly spring ring.. It has audible piston slap at idle V much like a still cold Wiseco fitted engine does.

Yes.. but it's rare / unlikely that one can replace rings without requiring fresh pistons. Bore clearances are Critical.

thanks for that Bare . Just had my barrels and head done by Scott Clough all they needed was a light hone but also had the squish and oring done at the same time . He said the barrels look fresh at the the standard 64mm bore and sugested if the pistons looked good to carry on using them so i cleaned them up and they and the pins look in good condition with no play in the new bearings but the fellow who had the bike before me replaced them with riken rings so i thought i would go back to oem .I think i will try a set.
