Is there some additional info from Roger on why cast pistons as such an issue? Is it the piston support as mentioned previously aka bore size? I am just trying to wrap my head around why this specific engine has issues with cast pistons while most do not...

The real issue is that cast pistons don't expand as much as forged so if you run them at forged clearances the will rattle and break. Forged are stronger. But heavier. Lighter piston have an easier time. Swings and twirly bits.
