RD/LC Primary gearing.

#1 Post by Airmun » Mon Feb 13, 2017 6:42 pm

Can anyone tell me what differences in primary gearing (If any) there are in the various models of RD/LC.

Most crankshaft gears are 23T. Are there any variations between models and capacity (As per TZ)?

Any help would be appreciated.

The aircooled RD250 and RD350 had different primary gear ratios. And just like you mentioned the TZ250 and 350 had different primary ratio's (though different than the RD250 and 350), but by the RD250/350LC Yamaha had settled on one ratio and used the same ratio in the RZ250/350 and later in the Banshees. (They used the same ratio in the RD400's as well). Ed

Alright had to dig through the old notes a bit but:
Aircooled RD250 68/21 3.238
Aircooled Rd350/400/RD250LC/RD350LC/RZ250/RZ350/Banshee 66/23 2.869
Early TZ250's 77/23 3.35 (Dry clutch/straight cut)
TZ350's 74/25 2.96 (Dry clutch/straight cut)

I think the only thing to add (remember) is that they went to matched gears later on for the YPVS (so I seem to remember )
