Cylinder head o ringing

Re: Cylinder head o ringing
Dabs of grease usually keep the rings in place, but there is a chance.

Re: Cylinder head o ringing
How smooth does the surfaces have to be? Do they have to be lapped I can use a rounded cutting bit and slow cut on the lathe would that be good enough
Re: Cylinder head o ringing
Surface finish of 30-40 RMS would be the norm.4cyl h2 wrote:How smooth does the surfaces have to be? Do they have to be lapped I can use a rounded cutting bit and slow cut on the lathe would that be good enough

Re: Cylinder head o ringing
you should use a straight not round cutting tool on the lathe as per the parker guide to get the correct deformation of the 0-ring.4cyl h2 wrote:How smooth does the surfaces have to be? Do they have to be lapped I can use a rounded cutting bit and slow cut on the lathe would that be good enough

Yes I will square cut the o ring groove. On the rounded cutting bit I was referring to cutting the head and cylinder gasket surface trying to cut as smooth as possible. Yes would be easier to send to Eric or any number of other pro's as for them o ringing is easy, for me the idea is do it myself and as low cost as possible on as many steps as I can Always been a do it yourself type. Kinda cool watching it come together and problem solving So many things on a project that need done trying to save up for the cranks and piston kits I'm not planning on trying either myself. At this point just trying to make everything fit and work correctly just got done with making and setting up the lockup, Torrington bearing pusher for pressure plate and extended pushrod, now on to extended clutch cover and shift linkage? Will deal with looks and power development in time
