Stock Pipes

#1 Post by mariofta » Thu Mar 16, 2017 10:15 am

I have visited the site for a while now, always lurking and absorbing the great contributions of all.
Awesome info for RZ owners and two strokers on the whole.
Was wondering if anyone ever tried gutting or mod the stock catalytic pipes, would like to have that stock look but with the improved performance.

While somewhere there are or were several thousand sets of US catalyst equipped pipes, it would probably be easier to find some stock Canadian pipes. And they should perform better than modified US pipes. Check bald anthony's post rz350 parts under Bodywork. He says he has a set but it doesn't say whether they are US or other.
Red/White US '84, Spec II pipes, Y-boot w/K&N, Fox Shock, Mikuni carbs?

Appreciate the response.
Saw the post by Bald Anthony but was hoping that someone had gutted these pipes.
Thanks again.

Marco Böhmer ( http://sonic-speed.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , site currently under construction ) modified the later F2 pipes by building a complete new header (conical instead of the straight stock tube), cutting the belly in two, removing the inner parts, re-weld everything and add some self-build silencers.
That was as much effort as pricy, but the gain was less than his complete pipes.

Better get some decent pipes and a programmable ignition/PV controller.

I really want that OEM look and was hoping the US cat pipes could be gutted, I probably have to settle for some canadian pipes.

Thanks MK

IF after the Stock appearance? Go to a local Hot rod/speed shop and find the name /place of the local ex fabricator.
Typically these guys do Exquisite work .. often for working man prices. (not always though.. so Do check beforehand :-)
Small job to open a set of catalysed RZ pipes remove the ceramic puck and reweld.
A skilled fabricator could do it invisibly.. once repainted

Not given up.Was hoping to find more info on US stock pipes mods such as cat removal.
Wanted to at least see the internal differences for US and Canadian.

Thanks all
