Newbie Exhaust questions
Hello
Just picked on a 1990 Canada model, new to RZ350.
I was looking at pipe options for the bike .
I have seen...
JL pipes (seems like no one has them in stock)
Toomey Pipes (they will be available in a month a believe)
TSA Pipes (12 week wait)
TPR Pipes (out of stock for a long time)
GR Pipes (16-18 week wait)
Wicked Pipes (I heard wicked does not make them)
What pipes do you recommend?
I do not want to modify the fairings to fit.
I like the idea of stainless so that the pipes do not rust and look like crap after time.
There is always the option to Ceramic coat the Mild steel pipes as well.
Why do some brand require removal of the center stand and other do not ?
Thank you so much in advance

Re: Newbie Exhaust questions
Welcome to the forum, lots of great information to be found here!!
I've got the JL's GP style on my bike. I really like them. I got mine from Jim at Fast From the Past. http://www.fastfromthepast.com/by-model ... jl-exhaust
Some pipes they have in stock, others are 5-6 weeks out. I'm sure some others will give their recommendations too.
Good luck with your new bike!!

Re: Newbie Exhaust questions
If you go to Gisbson pipes, they did an exhaust challange on their facebook page - may be helpful.

Doesn't look like they tested enough pipes.. Or is it a pipe-dream?LC Cnd wrote:If you go to Gisbson pipes, they did an exhaust challange on their facebook page - may be helpful.
Re: Newbie Exhaust questions
Don't see Mirons in the lot - perhaps on the bike.
Re: Newbie Exhaust questions
your comment on modifying the fairing may kill your dream for most of these, certainly wicked and TSA.
Apparently Tyga will release an RZ pipe this year too, their LC pipe is out soon.

Re: Newbie Exhaust questions
GR claims I can keep both stands and no modifications to the fairing will be needed.
Unfortunately they have the longest wait .
Their quality seems to be very good from pictures I have seen.
Anyone else running them ?
Thanks again

Found their Facebook page , doesn't seem to much activity there anymore and their website is down.LC Cnd wrote:If you go to Gisbson pipes, they did an exhaust challange on their facebook page - may be helpful.
I like the look of their polished stainless pipes with carbon canisters .
Is Gibson a good pipe compared to the JL and TSA and GR ?
Thanks

Re: Newbie Exhaust questions
Gibson pipes are not performance pipes they would be equal to micron for "back in the day" sound nice but that's about it,
So on to more modern pipes, JL was using a pipe designed by A geeza call Wobbly (Wayne Wright) designed back in 1985 for a long time. But customers wanted a pipe that you didn't need to rev the crap out off to make power.
So JL was given a new design to make which is the current pipe to date.
Kenny TSA takes a different approach and works with the rev limitations of a stock crack, he works with the BMEP that the engine can produce at a given RPM and achieves the same results at lower RPM's.
Then there is Toomey........IMO heavy junk.........maybe they should use "military grade aluminum" to get them lighter???.
Unfortunately your options are very limited in the USA for quality performing two stroke pipes.
Who's GR?

Re: Newbie Exhaust questions
DG pipes.
I've got them on my '84. Seem to work just fine and are reasonably quieter than the Toomey's on my '85. Still sound really nice, but I'm not worried about cops or neighbors with them.
Economy Cycle and HGV.
You might need to check to see if they would work for your '90 canadian.

Re: Newbie Exhaust questions
Economy cycle and hgv both carry JL pipes but they can't get them for 5-6 weeks .
GR pipes are made in Spain , they did dyno tests on all the available pipes , pretty interesting results .

Here are the results from the video above, note that the stock pipes have 5-10 hp on everything between 6-8000 rpm.
