1985 RZ350 Canadian backfires low speed

#1 Post by Swaler » Sun Apr 09, 2017 4:41 pm

Greetings. Just took the bike out of winter storage. Started no trouble but it stutters and pops at low revs. Once up over 6000 rpm it stops stumbling. It was doing this a tad at the end of last year but was more of a stuttering feeling intermittently that would disappear when it warmed up. I tightened up the exhaust manifold screws as one was a touch loose and it seemed to help but problem has now returned and they are fine. Any thoughts? Tks. Bill

Are you sure the choke is not pulled out?

Sounds like the carbs need to be cleaned, Pilots sound like they are blocked..

Unless it is stuck at the carb it is not out.

Be patient! Dealing with carbs sucks at first especially getting them in and out of the bike. May be able to turn carb 45 degrees to access the bottom.

Pulled plugs....left one fouled and right fine. Replaced and problem (temporarily) resolved. I backed out a quarter turn on the air screw to try and lean that side a bit. It will be interesting to see if and how quickly it fouls again...not that hopeful that leaning it out a bit will solve the issue.
