Re: 1990 F2 Wont Rev out past 6k
I'm running BR8EIX right now.
Do they needs to be gapped at a specific value ?
Thanks again

Everything between 0.5 and 0.7 mm will work.
BTW: If you purchase a Zeeltronic, then pick the PDCI and not the PCDI as the latter one requires a working source coil (note the subtle difference).
This one would work: http://zeeltronic.com/page/pdci-11v.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The B-plugs have no resistor and the advice was meant to solely use them to debug the stock ignition.
In connection with programmable ignitions you must not use them unless you like funny side effects like temp gauges going nuts, ignition cutting out at WOT & high revs or handhelds showing complete nonsens.
In fact you should try new plugs at least two times.
I once screwed in brand new BR9ES and they were as faulty as those I unscrewed before. The next new pair cured the issue ....

Check the resistance values of the ignition windings in the stator if you haven't already done so, it sounds as though one is breaking down as its temperature rises.

Re: 1990 F2 Wont Rev out past 6k
So last night
I verified the readings on the stator as well as alternator.
All within spec
Pulled the carbs to verify float height ... They were at 20mm
I did notice that I had the carb bowls swapped .
I went ahead and put the right bowls with their correct sides .
Reassembled with 2 brand new BR8ES plugs .
Ran the bike and same thing ... No power after 4k
Pulled the plugs and they are soaked again.
See pics in the link on previous post .
Thanks

I have an 89 rz350 same color blue as yours an am having the exact same problem. I pretty much went through the same trouble shooting as you and came up with nothing. The bike has been sitting for almost 2 years now.Have you found out what the problem is yet?

Yes I have found the problem .Creep wrote:I have an 89 rz350 same color blue as yours an am having the exact same problem. It was float bowl height .
Haynes manual says to measure from gasket surface to top of the float .
Guy I spoke to on the rz350 page on Facebook is from Montreal .
He pointed me in the right do very knowledgeable, the measurement should be taken from the base of the carb to the top of the float .
The correct measurement is 21.0mm
I set it there and took it for a ride and bike reved out fine , ran great for a about a mile then , I ran out of fuel , had to bring the bike back home on the choke .
Pulled the plugs and they were white !
Too lean . But at least I know what knob to turn to get results .
And I know it's nothing electrical.
So yesterday I changed the height on both carbs to 20.3mm to add more fuel in the carbs .
Went for a quick ride and the right side plug looked like a nice coffee color , the left side was a very dark brown .
I adjusted just the left carb to 20.5mm and took it for another ride .
Boom both plugs look like a nice coffee color .
Weird thing is ... Only half of each plug is the right color , the other half remains white .
Is that normal for these bikes ?
Also bike seems to break up a bit around 6500-7000.
It will rev out but not making the power there like it should .
Any suggestions ?
Mains are 185 pilot is 27.5
Thanks
Todd

That would be because one side is pointed towards the exhaust (white) and the other is not. You can index the plug so the open end of the electrode is pointed towards the exhaust port.Sitnlow4life wrote:

Use a sharpie to mark where it is initially, then tighten check and either add a washer, or remove the washer on the plug.
185 jet, are you running Powerjet carbs? with PJ carbs you're at 245 which is not rich enough if you have pods or exhaust in my opinion.

So index the electrode toward the carb ?
The bike has the stock airbox, and the stock power jet carbs

Yes. You want the spark to ignite the fuel the closest to the exhaust port first as that what exits first.
Re: 1990 F2 Wont Rev out past 6k
The power jet size is added to your main jet size for a total main jet size. I think the power jets are 40 and 45, right and left barrel.
Sounds like that bike was jetted well for stock settings.
