Advice - carbs & two into one filter

#1 Post by pxgallagher » Sun Apr 30, 2017 10:51 am

Picked up my second RZ350, the first fairly stock w/ Toomey's .... but the second was just a bargain find on an RZ that was on the track. A ton of fun (for a few minutes) around town. The carb's (larger Mikunis) seemed to be jetted for full out open throttle (which may make sense on a track bike); seemingly quite rich in the mid range ... and useless below 6K RPM. Above 6K it is a monster.

The 2 into one air filter connect to the carbs (right)...but they actually connect to an adapter on the carb. Those adapters are black and upon inspection, some of the "black" is flaking off on the inside ... so likely clogging up a carb, etc. The

Questions:
1) What is the adapter as I would love to just buy a new set?
2) If a new set cannot be found, should I just clean them to their chrome state? That is, get rid of the "black"?

Thoughts? And yes, I've read the numerous comments on original airbox's vs. two into ones, etc. but at this point my time and money are going into my other RZ so not looking to change a lot on this one (at this time).

Thanks,

Patrick

On stock Mikunis the 2 to 1 clamps right on the carbs, if your bike is running larger carbs the PO must have made something up to make it fit.

I thought the Y boot was standard fit on another model, maybe an AC?

On stock size carbs, Y boot off aircooled Yamaha rd350 fit.
You can use the same tall K+N type filter(as they do in the aircooled) if you run a custom battery box.
I also didn't have an oil pump so that oil reservoir wasn't there either.
It makes jetting changes very simple!
