Horsepower

#1 Post by 4cyl h2 » Sun May 07, 2017 4:56 pm

First time hot rod modding an rd350 except for water cooling and reed size seems a lot like a banshee. What's the reality for mods needed to see 50 horsepower at the rear wheel ok how about 60 is it true they started with maybe 28?? And 13 or so more from too eye pipes, what's a good list of mods and there expected power increases banshee reeds, carbs, head mod ignition upgrade etc

120/130HP is pretty easy on a banshee. I have an 85hp Raptor 700 and some of them damn banshees will leave me as if I was sitting, Wicked HP and speed out of them..

I blame Big Mouth Adverts and Sleazy Back street Go Faster shops. For stupid HP numbers.
Hell even Yamaha has claimed stoopid HP numbers.. repeatedly
Sadly it's just an easy to say number to impress / seduce a customer from their coin

good read and lays out how you can narrow down what YOU want.

I've put a few bikes on the dyno.
Stock bikes made 43 to 45 HP.

The bikes with Toomey pipes, Y-Boot and Head Mods made 60 HP at the wheel.

You can see the dyno charts at the bottom of page 7 in this thread.

This is my office. I've dyno'd a few myself.

This is an old air cooled 73-75 reed 350. My understanding was closer to 30 and that b on a good day where your 40-45 readings air or water cooled

i got a dyno chart around here somewhere for an air cooled.........lemme look. Low-mid 40s is doable on pump gas w/stock port timing. I dug up the chart online from Nate's Vanguard pipes RD. I dyno'd this thing in 2010 when he drove all the way from Michigan to Maryland-TWICE-'cause the dyno circuit board failed when in the middle of the first pull. that dyno was on par with Factory Pro numbers. I always maintained it including calibration.

Hey T-S-B;
That dip, or "hole in the powerband" is a harmonic resonance caused by the pipes & porting.
You can move it, and/or jet around it but it is always there...

I've got a dyno chart for my LC showing 43.2 hp for what is a mostly stock engine. Stock intake at the time, stock pipes. Only real mods were an O-ringed head and CF reeds with 6mm reed spacers.

Real Dyno or a Dino-jet result ?
There can be difference (semi recent load based Dino jets were notoriously optimistic) Rice Boy faves actually
