31k cigar exhaust repair

#1 Post by graham heise » Thu Jun 01, 2017 7:28 am

G'day race fans. I have a set of rz350 31k cigar exhaust that i wish to use on an original bike. On the outside the pipes are in reasonable condition. However one pipe has a rattle from a loose internal tube that is in between the first and second disc inside the back of the muffler. Today i cut the end of the cigar to remove the loose tube.
I'm seeking advice as to whether i should remove the rest of the internal baffles and just leave the 4 hollow discs that are inside and use the end silencer? maybe remove the mesh thats attatched to the internal wall aswell. Trying to send pics

Typical issue for these pipes.

When re-welding try to clean as good as you can, otherwise it will weld like crap.
Last time I did that it was to de-restrict a RD250LC.

I'm still running my cigars with the same broken baffle in one. Tried to get it out, in the end I just put it back in. I run them in packed.

Sorry, I meant unpacked, as in no batting around the baffle.
I'm not sure how they are meant to be. Had someone ask me the other day if I had packing around the baffle. I don't.
I do have two baffles that are two different lengths. the broken piece is not coming out. tried for days it seems like, finally moved on.

Ahh ok, thanks.

Yeah i was the same. I considered gettin hold of a stick welder and using a long stick to get it to stay in place, but its obviously rusty and oily so I doubt that would help. like you I gave up lol...

Since i've cut one open to get the loose tube out i think i'll remove the other loose labyrinth tube from the end of the pipe and the mesh from the muffler wall. Will need to cut the other pipe aswell to do the same. So this will just leave the 4 disc and i will use the end silencers.
