5th gear "whine"
I've just started to get a whine in 5th gear. Was wondering if anyone has had this occur also? I'm hoping to ride the summer before splitting the cases again. But....maybe this needs immediate attention, and I should start looking for parts asap.
Thanks in advance for any input

Re: 5th gear "whine"
The whine is in 6th not 5th. Any how, my oil plug came out with a little metal hedge hog on it. I think its shrapnel from a recent clutch plate change. going to have to go in and giver some love.
On the bright side, I searched eBay for 10 minutes and bought replacement gear clusters for if I need them. Good to see they are easy to get still.

Yup, the two I've owned had the whine. And the speedo squeals when its cold out.ZedSledder wrote:The whine is in 6th not 5th. Any how, my oil plug came out with a little metal hedge hog on it. I think its shrapnel from a recent clutch plate change. going to have to go in and giver some love.

Re: 5th gear "whine"
Seems mine comes on in 6th gear. I just rev the piss out of it in 5th and hardly use 6th.
I found 2 sets of gear clusters. One only has 10k km on them. I'll investigate and Fix it in the fall. Only have about a month left on this years insurance. Needless to say I'll have extra gears in the end if someone might need one.
My speedo cable is really tweeked as it has to wrap around the Triumph calipers I'm using. I'll pay attention to see if the whine is comeing from there. Although there is nothing until I hit 6th. But good point.

Re: 5th gear "whine"
Just put in 500km useing Bel Ray gear saver 80w.
Before that I used the Amsoil severe gear. Didn't help and frothed/ foamed/ and Stinks. Before that 10w30 Amsoil....dumped it with the metal shavings that I'm assuming came from new clutch plates I just put in. I used the clutch nitrile O rings and there were bits of that in the oil too.
Still creeps and can't find neutral with Bel Ray.
Still looking for a good gear oil. Belray has been the best so far. I can at least find neutral while coasting to a stop..... Sometimes.

Re: 5th gear "whine"
Zedsledder, is your clutch basket notched? That has nothing to do with your whine, but it could be the cause of your creep, and difficulty with finding neutral.
tuned to Paris Hilton specs............rich and retarded!

Re: 5th gear "whine"
Yes, they very well could be notched.Good point. Also I probably over stuffed the clutch basket fitting in the rubber o-rings , and used generic friction plates from India.I only have a month or so to go and I'll go through it all. I am sure I need the backing rubber cushions too. I can feel them shift sometimes.
